This is an onsite, fulltime position, Monday - Friday from 8am-4pm.Salvaggio Academy, a private school in Allentown, Pennsylvania, provides a nurturing and academically rigorous environment for our students. We pride ourselves on our close-knit community, personalized attention, and commitment to fostering a love of learning.Reporting to the Dean of Students, the School Counselor will support the social, emotional, behavioral, and academic development of students in grades K–5. This role includes direct services to students, consultation with staff and families, and collaboration with outside agencies as needed. The counselor will be a key member of our student support team, working proactively to create a positive school climate and provide early interventions.What You’ll Do:Provide individual and small group counseling to students dealing with social, emotional, behavioral, and academic challengesImplement age-appropriate social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum across all grade levelsSupport students in developing self-regulation, conflict resolution, peer relationships, and decision-making skillIdentify students in need of additional support through teacher referrals, observations, and data analysisDevelop and implement behavior intervention plans and support strategiesRespond to crisis situations and provide short-term crisis counselingConsult regularly with teachers, staff, and administration to discuss student needs and progress.Partner with families to provide resources, guidance, and consistent supportServe as a liaison between school and outside mental health or social services agencies when neededPromote and help sustain a positive and inclusive school culture aligned with our core values and character development goalsAssist in the implementation of school-wide initiatives such as bullying prevention, restorative practices, or mindfulness programsMaintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions and student progressParticipate in student support team meetings and assist in developing 504/IEP recommendations when applicableEnsure compliance with ethical standards, school policies, and state regulationsWhat You’ll NeedRequired:Master’s degree in School CounselingSupervised field experience which includes a practicum (minimum 60 hours of direct service) and an internship (minimum 300 hours, including instructional experience and direct service with individual and group clients)Passing scores on the Praxis School Counselor examValid PA Educational Specialist Certificate – School Counselor (or ability to obtain)Strong knowledge of child development, trauma-informed practices, and SEL frameworksExcellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skillsCommitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural responsivenessPreferred:Experience working with elementary-aged children in a school setting is preferredPhysical DemandsAbility to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standardsThe employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawlThe employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty poundsAbility to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitorThe pay range for this position is $65,000 - $70,000 annually (USD). Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education.
