Job Description
We are in search of a School Counselor to work at Salvaggio Academy, a K-5 school in Allentown, PA. This is an onsite, fulltime position, Monday - Friday from 8am-4pm.

Reporting to the Dean of Students, the School Counselor will support the social, emotional, behavioral, and academic development of students in grades K–5. This role includes direct services to students, consultation with staff and families, and collaboration with outside agencies as needed. The counselor will be a key member of our student support team, working proactively to create a positive school climate and provide early interventions.
What You’ll Do:
Provide individual and small group counseling to students dealing with social, emotional, behavioral, and academic challenges
Implement age-appropriate social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum across all grade levels
Support students in developing self-regulation, conflict resolution, peer relationships, and decision-making skill
Identify students in need of additional support through teacher referrals, observations, and data analysis
Develop and implement behavior intervention plans and support strategies
Respond to crisis situations and provide short-term crisis counseling
Consult regularly with teachers, staff, and administration to discuss student needs and progress.
Partner with families to provide resources, guidance, and consistent support
Serve as a liaison between school and outside mental health or social services agencies when needed
Promote and help sustain a positive and inclusive school culture aligned with our core values and character development goals
Assist in the implementation of school-wide initiatives such as bullying prevention, restorative practices, or mindfulness programs
Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions and student progress
Participate in student support team meetings and assist in developing 504/IEP recommendations when applicable
Ensure compliance with ethical standards, school policies, and state regulations
What You’ll Need
Required:
Master’s degree in School Counseling
Supervised field experience which includes a practicum (minimum 60 hours of direct service) and an internship (minimum 300 hours, including instructional experience and direct service with individual and group clients)
Passing scores on the Praxis School Counselor exam
Valid PA Educational Specialist Certificate – School Counselor (or ability to obtain)
Strong knowledge of child development, trauma-informed practices, and SEL frameworks
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards
The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to ten pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty pounds
Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor
The pay range for this position is $65,000 - $70,000 annually (USD). Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education. Benefit package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401k retirement account access. Employees in this role receive paid time off and may also be entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
