Job Purpose
The Tech Lead is responsible for leading the effort to improve customer satisfaction and owner loyalty through improved speed of market action, developing innovative repair methods that align with dealer technician capability.Lead efforts in PST Market Quality Engineering to identify challenges and barriers to create prompt, high quality diagnosis and repairs performed by the Dealer’s Automotive Technicians.
The Tech Lead will also be responsible for providing test methods/results and technical feedback that leverages the department’s ability to develop corrective actions to address automobile market quality concerns, reduce time to market action, and ensure quality to promote high levels of customer loyalty and satisfaction. This position requires expertise in repair methods, component installation, documentation, maintenance, and mentoring in order to ensure the successful execution of projects and enhancement of Honda’s dealership abilities and technician comprehension of Service Bulletin repair methods.
Key Accountabilities
- Verification of repair methods including countermeasure component installation and flat rate times to support bulletin issuance. This includes both hardware and software repair methods to ensure accurate and efficient instructions and repair procedures are confirmed before publication are released to dealership technicians
- Installation and verification of suspected faulty components. Install parts requested by Engineers, using shop manuals, bulletins, and other online systems. Diagnose then communicate results verbally and written to the Engineers. Work orders rated A-rank to be completed in 2 working days, High in 4 working days; Medium in 6 days; Low in 10 day
- Accurately document testing procedures, results, and findings, providing pertinent feedback, pending results back to Engineers and Shop Supervisor. If needed, use technical expertise and deep knowledge of dealership technician behavior to propose more efficient repair methods or modifications to the existing procedure for better comprehension or ease of repair for dealership technician
- Perform specific and routine maintenance on HONDA & ACURA automobiles. Perform routine maintenance utilizing Service Manual and Owner’s Manual information. Lead complex diagnosis and repair complaints received from vehicle reports, including Natural Gas Vehicles, Fuel Cell Vehicles and Battery Electric Vehicle
- Represent AHM by attending off-site activities, including press and dealer events to assure vehicles are in top condition, as well as attend port activities, making sure vehicles meet the design criteria and are ready for dealer distributio
- Conduct component installations and procedure verifications to understand/validate flat rate times to determine accurate time estimates, aiding in cost-effective plannin
- Conduct and lead dealer visits to observe and confirm repairs first-hand for bulletin effectivenes
- Provide mentorship to technicians by sharing technical knowledge and expertise to enhance their skill development and overall performance while also providing support and guidance for complex vehicles issues
Qualifications, Experience, & Skills
- High School Diploma
- 2 years Automotive Trade School or AA in Automotive Technology or equivalent work experience preferred
- ASE Certifications A1-A* and L1 preferred
- Ten (10) years automobile experience as a full line Technician (Honda and Acura Master Technician experience preferred
- Driving record back-ground check and approval to operate company vehicles (ability to operate Engineering Test vehicles is required for this position)
- High level of mechanical aptitude and completion of Honda/Acura technical training
- Well-rounded understanding of automobile technology and future technology such as CASE and/or fuel cell systems and components
- Competently able to use hand tools, measuring equipment, electronic test equipment (HDS/Pico Scope and DVOM), alignment equipment, brake finishing equipment, wheel balancing equipment, air conditioning service equipment
- Proficient PC/office skills: typing, data entry, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point
- Excellent communication and ability to articulate technical information and test results
- Ability to interact with peers internally and externally to achieve shared goals and objectives while maintaining good relationships
- Work completion within expected guidelines and ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects
- Ability to operate a forklift with certification required
- Ability to lead teams and advise on vehicle repairs
