Principal Duties and Responsibilities : Performs basic mechanical repairs based on level of experience Performs tire mounting/dismounting, wheel balance and tire rotation. Performs oil changes, fluid changes and power flushes and other basic services. Utilizes the company's Multi-point Inspection and/or Repair Order to properly document the vehicle condition Conducts State Safety and Emission Inspections (in applicable locations) on vehicles in an ethical manner following all company and state guidelines Follows all safety procedures and reports any concerns to direct supervisor Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends as needed. Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor Adheres to Sun Auto's core values, and all company policies and procedures as outlined in the Sun Auto Tire & Service Employee Handbook Qualifications : Previous automotive technician / mechanic experience preferred Ability to demonstrate proper use of computerized equipment for diagnostics Valid Driver's license in the work State (out-of-state driver's licenses must be transferred to work state within 30 days of hire) Ability to obtain a State Inspector License (in applicable locations) is preferred High School Diploma or equivalent preferred Working Conditions and Physical Demands : The Junior Automotive Technician will be exposed to moderate to loud noises, dust, exhaust fumes, lubricants, petroleum products, vapors, caustic materials, and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials. The temperature in the work environment varies and could include extreme heat and/or extreme cold depending on the ambient temperatures outside. The use of safety goggles or other PPE may be required when working in these conditions . The Junior Automotive Technician must be able to meet the following physical requirements: Stand up to eight hours per day in the shop and able to walk to gain access to various areas of the building Bend, stoop, kneel and crouch regularly throughout the day; must have full range of motion with arms and hands and be able to feel, handle or finger objects frequently Lift and/or move up to 10 pounds regularly, lift and/or move up to 70 pounds frequently. Provides service to the customer base by repairing and overhauling equipment, such as compressors, water pumps, air handlers, and electrical and mechanical control devices in a safe, efficient, and timely manner that exceeds customers' expectations Provides general repair work on refrigeration, heating, and ventilation equipment, such as air conditioning units, evaporative condensers, ice machine equipment, water pumps, gas furnaces, compressors, and electric motors in a safe and timely manner. Provides preventative maintenance activities for customers by diagnosing equipment malfunction and any operating deficiency of the mechanical equipment to ensure quality work performance for the customer base. Test malfunctioning systems and components using electrical and/or mechanical skills. Maintain legible corporate and personal records of work history. Provides department support by processing job tickets, and work orders to the necessary department promptly. Provide support by picking up, delivering, and installing cases. Perform work on minor construction and remodeling projects including startups of new installations. Drives company vehicle in a safe manner. Performs other related duties and projects as assigned by management. Qualifications: High school diploma/GED. EPA certification. Certification from an accredited vocational-technical or trade school is a plus! Minimum 3+ years of commercial refrigeration experience required. Experience working on refrigeration equipment in convenience stores or supermarkets is a strong plus. Familiarity with single systems and rack systems along with previous work on display cases and walk-in boxes is very helpful. Must have a good driving record and be able to work independently. Emergency on-call availability is a basic requirement. Must be able to lift to 60 lbs. with no assistance and also be able to sit and/or stand for several hours at a time.
