As specialists in volume resuscitation and massive transfusion, this makes STICU the most equipped to treat and manage abdominal catastrophes, compartment syndrome, liver failure and liver transplant patients as well. Shock Trauma Nurses also can serve as the Rapid Response Nurse for the hospital; treating decompensating patients anywhere throughout the hospital. The Coronary Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is a 16 bed ICU that specializes in the care of themedically managed cardiac patient. Specifically, cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, STEMI (ST elevated MI), rule out MI, Heart failure, Pulmonary Hypertension, TAVR (transfemoral aortic valve replacement) and unstable post cardiac Cath lab PCI patients (percutaneous coronary interventions). We manage several advanced therapies such as SWANs, CRRT, Impella, LVADs and ventilators. Our typical nurse to patient ratio is 1:2, with 1:1 nursing for the more critical patients. Critical Care Tech’s work alongside the bedside nurses in caring for all the patients. In addition to typical CNA duties, they are trained to insert Foleys, IV’s and Central line dressing changes. The CICU is the code response team at Intermountain Medical Center and the RN responds with the Charge nurse to all codes.
