NAMRU-SA serves as one of the leading research and development laboratories for the U.S. Navy and conducts gap driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of Department of Defense (DoD) personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations. The Directed Energy Department develops diagnostic tools to aid first responders/physicians in identification of distinct injury patterns caused by directed energy sources. To explore and learn more, click here!Are you ready to join a team dedicated to a mission Begin your journey of a flourishing and meaningful career, share your resume with us today!The Challenge:Develops, leads, and conducts protocol-driven scientific research addressing various aspect of military medicine, including, but not limited to: biomodelling, biophotonics, diagnostic platforms, and directed energy health/medical effectsDetermine requirements from approved experimental protocols and scheduling exposures of appropriate RF field power density, pulse duration, and pulse repetition rateExecute complex laboratory tests of RF systems and independently executing a redesign and modification of in-service RF systems to meet experimental requirementsReverse engineer RF field power density, pulse duration, and pulse repetition rate from potential RF exposure scenariosMonitor and maintain real-time data collection capabilitiesDevelop and implement new laboratory standard operating proceduresTest new instrumentation and participating in experiment designWrite protocol-driven research proposals, animal use protocols, human research protocols, abstracts, conference presentations, technical reports, final reports, standard operating procedures and peer-reviewed manuscriptsProvide guidance to junior scientist contract personnel on the evaluation of data sets, development of presentation materials, writing of Government approved SOPs for research under contract and presenting findings at technical and professional meetingsOversees junior contract personnel during the preparation of experimental subjects and aids in the training and the development of experimental subjects for experimental procedures in accordance with approved animal or human use protocolsAids in the development and establishment of in vivo and in vitro model systems, data acquisition, and data analysisOversees contract personnel associated with research projects; manages research dataPerforms surgical and non-surgical procedures on animal models as needed for both survival and non-survival studiesWhat Sets You Apart:PhDTwo years of Postdoctoral experience or equivalentExperience using one or more of the following: C++, Python, R, SQL, PostgreSQL, Linux, MATLAB, VBA, or STK is preferredAbility to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams with program managers, scientists, and engineers for experiment development and executionAbility to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level, but current clearance is not required.Current certification or ability to obtain a certification within 3 months of start in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS); American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation); or equivalent.
