Our most common patient diagnosis is stroke, however we see a range of diagnoses. With the extensive services provided, our patients' average length of stay is 14 days. Although we are a 27 bed occupancy unit, we are actively working toward expanding to 37 beds as our unit is growing. The unit provides comprehensive mental health care to individuals between the ages of 18-59. Individuals over the age of 59 are evaluated for admission on an individual basis. Patients admitted to the unit have a primary DSM 5 diagnosis/es. However, patients may also have additional diagnoses, including, but not limited to Intellectual Disabilities, Autism, medical comorbidities, etc. Patients must be medically stable as a criteria for admission. Safety practices include 15-minute safety checks, staff monitoring of all community areas and staff presence during meals and visiting hours. Nursing care, daily psychiatric assessments, therapy and medication management are provided to meet the emotional, behavioral, physical, cultural, educational and spiritual needs of the adult patient population. The nurses work 12-hour shifts (7A & 7P).
