The Cath Lab RN performs all duties as a member of the Cath Lab team for adult and geriatric patients. Assumes responsibility for patient management: including, but not limited to, assessment, patient teaching, documentation, medication administration, and collaboration with physicians. Fulfills the role of circulator and performs the role of the procedure monitor/documentation. Willing to cross train to perform role of scrub assistant. Cross train to scrub assistant. Provides input in the development of policies, procedures, quality control and marketing of the Cath Lab. Demonstrates ability to operate and maintain all equipment in accord with instructions, policies and procedures. Notifies the Cath Lab Manager and/or Charge RN of any problems with the equipment. Oversees the restocking of rooms to assure readiness for emergent cases. Responsible for cleaning Cath Lab, equipment and holding area between procedures according to infection control policy and procedures. Assumes responsibility, authority and accountability for clinical practice. Follows safety procedures and guidelines. Reports unsafe conditions. Uses all Cath Lab computer system for work related activities. Safeguards all computer information and maintains confidentiality. Proves ability to navigate all computer programs. Adheres to time scheduling exhibiting flexibility. Assumes on call responsibility, with required response time of 30 (thirty) minutes or less. Assists in OPSU and ICU/CCU area as directed. Assists with the performance of all lab procedures, including, and not limited to, cardiac pacemakers, TEE, and cardioversion procedures and recoveries. Demonstrates clinical competence in basic cardiac physiology/pathology, 12 lead EKG interpretation; physiologic monitoring (intra cardiac pressure waveform knowledge), pacemaker operations (implantable and external) and other radiographic equipment related to cardiac care. Management of critically ill patients during transfer to other health care facilities. Education: Assists in the orientation and continuing education of new staff, other staff members, and students. Attend unit specific educational programs. Promotes cardiac education programs in the community. Assume responsibility for maintaining own educational requirements, attends required education, clinical excellence competency etc., including age specific education. Quality Assurance: Participates in ongoing Performance Improvement projects both within the department and within the system as appropriate. Demonstrates competence in performing all quality controls within the department. Job Requirements: Education: Graduate of a RN program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. Provides for patient safety and security needs by maintaining a clean and safe environment and placing call bell within patients reach at all times. Promptly answers patient call lights and fulfills patient request as soon as possible. Makes patient rounds hourly and as needed to assess patient needs.
