Responsibilities of Cath lab nurses include: -Ensuring consent paperwork for the patient is completed and filed in the patient’s chart -Preparing patients for the procedure, which can include sterilization and shaving areas where the catheter will be inserted -Monitoring sedation levels during and after catheterizations to ensure a patient is not experiencing an adverse reaction -Assisting in interventional procedures such as balloon angioplasty, stent placement, and rotation -Monitoring patients for signs of infections or side effects following the catheterization -Delivering discharge paperwork and instructions to patients and families that include details on medications, activities, and dietary restrictions following the procedure -Updating patient charts with specific information about the procedure The ideal candidate has: -Demonstrates a positive and professional approach and communicates effectively with patients and team members. -Has basic PC software application knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems. -Is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and feels comfortable speaking with patients during difficult medical situations. -Has a passion for helping others. Provides health education to patients and families.Develops, evaluates, adapts and documents education to meet learning needs and abilities of patients and families.Assists in the preparation of department specific education for patients and colleagues. Covers other nursing roles in the department.Maintains core competency in nursing (CPR, skills labs).Other duties as assigned.Education: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.BSN preferred.Certifications:Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) required.
