Job DescriptionAbout the teamThe Corewell Health (CH) West Helen Devos Childrens Hospital (HDVCH) Vascular Access Team (VAT) is a program of registered nurses specially trained in the ultrasound guidance insertion of vascular access devices. The team utilizes the Infusion Nurse’s Society (INS), Michigan Appropriateness Guide to Intravenous Catheters (MAGIC), and mini-MAGIC for the pediatric population as evidence-based practice standards to determine the most appropriate access for each patient. The HDVCH VAT inserts bedside anatomical IVs and ultrasound guided peripheral IVs (PIV) for inpatients and outpatients at HDVCH. They are a dedicated resource within HDVCH for PIV insertions and an advocate for needle pain reduction and adherence to poke plans. Additionally, they round daily on central venous catheters to help reduce the incidence of infection, provide education, and serve as an expert level resource for all types of IV access. About the unit7 South is a 22 bed Progressive Neuroscience unit located within Butterworth Hospital. This unit specializes in the care of stroke and adult epilepsy patients. As an accredited comprehensive stroke center, we have the ability to receive and treat the most complex stroke cases. About the Unit: The Prince Surgical Critical Care Unit is a 22-bed intensive care unit in the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth Hospital. The surgical ICU specializes in the care of critically ill trauma and surgical patients. The trauma population includes geriatric rib fractures, traumatic brain injury, multi-trauma requiring critical care needs, and the critical care adult burn population. The surgical population includes trauma surgery, emergency general surgery, surgical oncology, and vascular surgery with critical care needs. Nurses in the surgical ICU also provide care to medical and neuro critically ill patients. Our nurses are competent in the care of patients requiring ventilator support, life-sustaining titratable medications including cardiac and sedation medications and assist with procedures such as bedside tracheostomies and central line placement. With experience and competence surgical ICU nurses can become specialty trained to care for patients requiring continuous renal replacement therapy as well as manage the care of critically ill burn patients. About the UnitThe Medical Critical Care (MCC) is a 24-bed unit that cares for a wide variety of critically ill patients. The next year for MCC is an exciting time as the unit will be going through a major expansion. The growth of West Michigan has resulted in the increased need for hospitals beds and specifically intensive care beds.
