About the unitThis unit is a 16-bed cardiovascular/cardiothoracic care unit. This unit’s primary specialty is post-open heart/CABG patients. Post-op CABG patients will recover in the ICU for 2-3 days. The patient population will include cardiac procedure requiring ICU level care, open-heart patients direct from the OR, vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, TAVR procedure, and STEMI intervention. RNs will care for patients requiring ventilator support, SWAN-GANZ catheters, vasopressors, inotrope drips, high alert drips, intra-aortic balloon pumps, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), IMPELLA devices, and chest tubes. About the unit10N is an inpatient unit specializing in the treatment of patients with hematological and oncological illness with the additional capacity to care for 12 cardiac telemetry patients. About the unit6 North is a 32-bed surgical floor that offers a great learning environment fostered by our team of exceptional nurses. 6 North offers experiences that are normally not found in Med-Surg clinical rotation. The unit has a focus on surgical conditions including urology procedures, major and minor abdominal surgeries, ENT, bariatric and pulmonary surgeries, peripheral vascular procedures as well as other general surgical post-op needs. About the unitThe Short Stay Unit/Observation Unit is a 50 bed unit (private rooms), specialized in caring for the adult population with a variety of diagnoses. A multi-disciplinary team approach in care, treatment and disposition within 23 hours. Patients can come to our unit from all areas: Emergency Center, Operating Room, procedural areas, directly from home or from their primary care physician’s office. The unit has 20 telemetry beds for patients who require cardiac monitoring. Our specialty is “All Non-Critical Specialties”, due to the wide range of diagnosis. Scope of workThe hospital based Wound Clinician serves as a clinical resource and consultant for the acute care of patients with disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems. The care extends to those with acute and chronic wounds (for example, complex draining wounds, fistulae, pressure injury, vascular ulcers), ostomies, percutaneous tubes, and continence disorders. Professional responsibilities are carried out through direct patient care, clinical consultation, education, research, and administration.General duties/responsibilities· Utilizes the nursing process when directing or delivering care to patients with WOC needs including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, and implementation (e.g., coordination of care delivery, health teaching and promotion, consultation), and evaluation.· Utilizes and maintains current physical, psychosocial, clinical assessment, and therapeutic communication skills to determine individual patient needs and expected outcomes.· Participates in committees or task forces related to wound, ostomy, and continence issues.Wound/skin care· Provides consultation for individuals with altered skin integrity (e.g., pressure injuries, draining wounds, fistulae) to develop individualized plans of care and attain expected outcomes.· Provides guidance to staff in implementing protocols to identify, control, or eliminate etiologic factors for skin breakdown, including selection of appropriate support surfaces.· Provides appropriate education to patients, caregivers, and staff regarding skin care, wound management, care of percutaneous tubes, and draining wound/fistulae management.· Provides consultation for negative pressure wound therapy, (including subsequent dressing changes) provides collaborative care which includes patient’s next care setting.· Validates pressure injury data collection for nursing quality indicators.WOC cares by providing the following:· Formal or informal continuing education programs.· Orientation sessions.· Collaborative practice committees.· Nursing councils.· Attends continuing education programs related to WOC nursing to maintain current knowledge and skills.QualificationsRequired Bachelor's Degree BSN2 years of relevant experience Two to four years of recent, relevant nursing experience.
