About the unitThe Adult Nephrology (AN) unit is made up of inpatient dialysis units at both the Butterworth Campus and the Blodgett Campus of Corewell Health. At Butterworth there are 8 patient bays, and Blodgett has 5 patient bays. The AN team focuses on patient care for those who may have either an acute kidney injury or end state renal disease, that require dialysis support during a hospital stay. Dialysis nurses care for patients at both campuses either in the AN unit or at the bedside depending on the acuity level of the patient. Adult Nephrology is a specialized unit, where staff have gained expertise in dialysis and vascular accesses by becoming certified in nephrology nursing or technician care. Experienced healthcare professionals are required to understand and assess patient conditions and reactions to dialysis. Teamwork is a key function within the AN unit and is a well-known culture for this team. About the unit Our 20 bed High Risk Postpartum / Women’s Health unit is located on 7 Center at Butterworth hospital. We provide couplet care, where we care for both mom and baby together. Two thirds of our patient population is typically related to diabetes management, complications due to high blood pressure, Covid 19, and more. We care for newborns that have issues with feeding, blood sugar management, and high bilirubin levels. Unit DescriptionThe Electrophysiology lab has four dedicated labs on 3 Meijer Heart Center and is part of the Cath EP lab. In the EP lab we care for patients who have cardiac arrythmias. Our patients receive Pacemakers, Internal Defibrillators, or Ablations to correct their arrythmia. Nurses are often drawn to the Ep lab who have a love for cardiac and procedural type nursing. We are a small team of 21 and collaborate with each other and our eight physicians, on a daily basis, to provide excellent care and outcomes for our patients. Working in the EP lab will give you an in-depth knowledge of the heart. About The UnitThe Cardiac (Coronary) Cath Lab unit at the Meijer Heart Center is a highly specialized procedural unit focusing on providing care to patients having a variety of cardiac conditions. The lab is a very fast-paced, dynamic unit, that quickly adapts to emergent situations. It consists of 5 procedure rooms, providing care for patients experiencing issues with heart failure; structural issues; peripheral circulatory issues; and coronary issues such as chest pain, STEMI (ST elevated myocardial infarction, NSTEMI (Non-ST elevated myocardial infarction). Nurses are drawn to the cath lab, not only for the wide variety of procedures we perform, but also for the cutting-edge procedures we provide to patients. We consistently have one of the highest volumes of STEMI patients in Michigan, caring for over 300 STEMI patients per year. Our nurses become experts in caring for a large array of patients including, but not limited to, (patients with)Impellas; IABP’s; swan-ganz catheters; ECMO; management of unstable/declining patients, including medication management. About the unitThe Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit is a high-acuity 36 bed cardiac surgical unit focused on fostering continuous learning while developing high level critical thinking and technical skills. Registered Nurses maintain significant competencies to operate at the top of the nursing license. Specialty device training includes the management of long term left ventricular assist devices, right and left sided Impellas, intra-aortic balloon pumps, continuous renal replacement therapy, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. About the unitThe Neuro Critical Care Unit is a 14 bed Intensive care in the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth hospital.The Neuro ICU is part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at the Medical Center, and it is West Michigan’s largest stroke center. About the unit6 South specializes in patients with advanced heart failure, pre or post heart or lung transplant, Left Ventricular Assist devices, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, and respiratory failure necessitating Bipap, or Hi-Flo Nasal Cannula. About the unitThe Neuro Critical Care Unit is a 14 bed Intensive care in the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth hospital.The Neuro ICU is part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at the Medical Center, and it is West Michigan’s largest stroke center. We specialize in the care of patients with stroke or other neurological conditions. These conditions include Hemorrhagic stroke, Ischemic stroke, seizures, and Hydrocephalus with critical care needs. Our nurses are part of a collaborative team and work alongside our nurse techs, intensivists, APPs, pharmacists, therapists, social workers, chaplains, and secretaries to provide specialized care to everyone. This team of nurses has worked to develop a culture of collaboration, kindness, teamwork, and learning. This team collaborates well and is proficient in delivering care in a timely manner. The observation operates as an extension of the emergency department caring for patients who are hospitalized for less than 48 hours. About the unit3E/G is a unique team structure at Blodgett Hospital composed of two separate units but one team. 3E is a 24 bed Med/Surg unit with some Medical Orthopedic patients while 3G is a 22 bed Orthopedic unit primarily serving Total Joint Replacement Patients. Our team works on both units, providing a variety of patient population experience including Total Joint Replacement, Hip Fracture, Osteomyelitis, and other medical patients. Those working on the 3EG team are part of an exceptional Joint Replacement program that is one of the largest and best in the nation, serving on average 2,800 patients per year. About the unitOur neurology program provides family-centered care for children and teenagers with diseases of the brain and nervous system. Families and primary care physicians team up with our neurologists to find the best ways to meet the particular needs of each child.About Outpatient ClinicsCorewell Health operates over 300 outpatient clinics across Michigan, bringing a multitude of care options to the communities that we serve. There are over 40 different types of primary care and specialty practices, which allows those who work in these clinics the opportunity to learn and explore various interests or to specialize in one area.Scope of workUnder the direction of the RN/Advanced Practice Provider/Physician and in collaboration with other members of the health care team, contributes to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Informs patients and families about treatments and medications being received, equipment being utilized, and other related activities as appropriate, in coordination with the RN/Mid-level Provider/Physician.
