About the unitBig Rapids Campus has a 22 bed medical surgical unit and a 4 bed critical care unit. This campus is the perfect place to gain experience as a new nurse and grow your career! The patient population in Big Rapids is very diverse, it consists of primarily hospitalist medicine patients with a wide variety of diagnosis, some of which include: pneumonia, COPD, cellulitis, kidney failure, and bowel obstructions. These diagnoses provide the opportunity to develop acute care skills such as IV placement, chest tubes and NG placement/management. In our critical care unit it is common to see high acuity patients with sepsis, hyperglycemia and respiratory failure whose plan of care would include managing medication drips (insulin, vasopressors, etc.) and the utilization of equipment such as ventilators and BIPAPs. Big Rapids has a well-established team that works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team that includes hospitalists, care managers, social workers, pharmacy, nurse techs, physical therapists, and occupational therapists to provide quality care for our patients. We have a good mix of experienced RNs that work alongside our education team to provide our new hires and grads with a great onboarding experience. The patient population on 4 West provides its employees the opportunity to learn about a variety of different conditions consisting of primarily hospitalist medicine patients with a wide variety of diagnosis, some of which include: pneumonia, sepsis, cellulitis, kidney failure, and hyperglycemia. About the unit4E is a 24 bed Med/Surg unit at Blodgett Hospital that cares for the general medical and surgical patients. Employees are often drawn to 4E for the variety of patients and the team environment. Our staff become competent in caring for a large array of both surgical and medical patients. About this unit4G is a 22 bed unit that cares for a variety of medical and surgical patients, specializing in digestive diseases. Our patient population is an even mix of medical and surgical cases, where you will see colorectal and bariatric surgical patients as well as bowel obstruction, kidney failure, cellulitis, and falls.
