About the Unit: The Prince Surgical Critical Care Unit is a 22-bed intensive care unit in the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth Hospital. The surgical ICU specializes in the care of critically ill trauma and surgical patients. The trauma population includes geriatric rib fractures, traumatic brain injury, multi-trauma requiring critical care needs, and the critical care adult burn population. The surgical population includes trauma surgery, emergency general surgery, surgical oncology, and vascular surgery with critical care needs. Nurses in the surgical ICU also provide care to medical and neuro critically ill patients. Our nurses are competent in the care of patients requiring ventilator support, life-sustaining titratable medications including cardiac and sedation medications and assist with procedures such as bedside tracheostomies and central line placement. With experience and competence surgical ICU nurses can become specialty trained to care for patients requiring continuous renal replacement therapy as well as manage the care of critically ill burn patients. Nurses working in the surgical ICU gain detailed assessment skills, critical thinking behaviors, as well as developing communication skills while working in a dynamic environment. The surgical ICU is a fast-paced unit that relies on teamwork and an interdisciplinary approach with not only provider teams, but ancillary staff to deliver excellent and effective care. RN’s will have the opportunity to provide care to the critical patient on ventilators, provide titration of life-sustaining medication, cardiac and sedation medication. About The UnitThe Cardiac (Coronary) Cath Lab unit at the Meijer Heart Center is a highly specialized procedural unit focusing on providing care to patients having a variety of cardiac conditions. The lab is a very fast-paced, dynamic unit, that quickly adapts to emergent situations. It consists of 5 procedure rooms, providing care for patients experiencing issues with heart failure; structural issues; peripheral circulatory issues; and coronary issues such as chest pain, STEMI (ST elevated myocardial infarction, NSTEMI (Non-ST elevated myocardial infarction). Nurses are drawn to the cath lab, not only for the wide variety of procedures we perform, but also for the cutting-edge procedures we provide to patients. We consistently have one of the highest volumes of STEMI patients in Michigan, caring for over 300 STEMI patients per year. Our nurses become experts in caring for a large array of patients including, but not limited to, (patients with)Impellas; IABP’s; swan-ganz catheters; ECMO; management of unstable/declining patients, including medication management. About the unitThe Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit is a high-acuity 36 bed cardiac surgical unit focused on fostering continuous learning while developing high level critical thinking and technical skills. Registered Nurses maintain significant competencies to operate at the top of the nursing license. Specialty device training includes the management of long term left ventricular assist devices, right and left sided Impellas, intra-aortic balloon pumps, continuous renal replacement therapy, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. The unit supports a culture of engagement and professional growth by encouraging participation in unit/organizational committees, councils, and other professional organizations. Teamwork, accountability, and collaboration are common practice expectations. Corewell Health is offering up to $10,000 as a sign on bonus for this opportunity!Weekend Option Program:Weekend RNs/LPNs will be required to work 48 out of 52 weekends per calendar year.Weekends are defined as Saturday and Sunday for day shift and Friday and Saturday night for night shift.RNs/LPNs can request up to 48 hours of PTO on their weekend shifts as well as 48 hours of exchanging a weekend shift for a weekday shift, for a total of 96 hours ‘off’ of the weekend requirement. About the unitThe Neuro Critical Care Unit is a 14 bed Intensive care in the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth hospital.The Neuro ICU is part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at the Medical Center, and it is West Michigan’s largest stroke center. We specialize in the care of patients with stroke or other neurological conditions. These conditions include Hemorrhagic stroke, Ischemic stroke, seizures, and Hydrocephalus with critical care needs. Our nurses are part of a collaborative team and work alongside our nurse techs, intensivists, APPs, pharmacists, therapists, social workers, chaplains, and secretaries to provide specialized care to everyone. About the unitThe ACE unit/1D (Acute Care of the Elderly) is a 21 bed Med/Surg unit at Blodgett Hospital. Our focus is on medical patients who are over the age of 65. About this unit3H is a 22 Neuroscience/Spine unit at Blodgett Hospital that specializes in the care of patients admitted with neurological conditions, stroke, and spinal surgeries such as fusions and laminectomies. Employees are often drawn to 3H for the variety of patients while still having a specialty focus. About the unit6 South specializes in patients with advanced heart failure, pre or post heart or lung transplant, Left Ventricular Assist devices, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps, and respiratory failure necessitating Bipap, or Hi-Flo Nasal Cannula. About the unitThe Neuro Critical Care Unit is a 14 bed Intensive care in the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth hospital.The Neuro ICU is part of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at the Medical Center, and it is West Michigan’s largest stroke center. We specialize in the care of patients with stroke or other neurological conditions. These conditions include Hemorrhagic stroke, Ischemic stroke, seizures, and Hydrocephalus with critical care needs. The RN assesses monitors, detects, plans and takes appropriate action to prevent physiological complications associated with specific health problems and/or medical treatment.Essential FunctionsCommunicates effectively with staff, residents and families. Assesses, develops, and maintains an individualized patient plan of care with the patient.As needed, specified by CH entity: Performs Medication Administration Pass according to regulatory guidelines. Informs MDS coordinator of significant resident/patient changes needed for completion of the MDS.Communicates with other members of the health care team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.Acts as a patient/family advocate.Evaluates patient’s and significant other’s educational needs and develops and implements appropriate teaching strategies or makes appropriate referrals.Observes and reports the patient’s condition, needs and outcomes of intervention to the physician and other team members.Identify problems and emergency situations and initiate immediate “life saving” measures in the absence of a physician.As needed, specified by CH entity: Teaches and supervises the care provided by CNA, LPN or other nursing service personnel according to regulatory and agency guidelines.Implements the plan of care by providing nursing services, including teaching, treatments, diagnostics, and preventiveprocedures, regularly evaluating the patient’s progress toward established goals recommending revisions to the plan as necessary, and planning for termination of service or discharge.
