The Zwolle Engineered Wood Products (EWP) mill in Zwolle, LA is hiring a Process Control Engineer I. The Process Control Specialist is a salaried position and will report to the Maintenance Manager at the Zwolle mill. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, training and supporting improvement process control solutions across the EWP regional manufacturing operations. The Process Control Engineer will work closely with mill personnel, corporate teams, and/or technology providers to identify process improvement opportunities and implement solutions in support of business and operational goals. Key Functions:Lead, develop, and support application of process and process control best practices. Including joining with mill leadership to develop mid- and long-term process control network strategiesUnderstand and share industry best practices, equipment options and proven strategies for manufacturing control systems and applicationsProactively identify opportunities for process improvement, variability reduction and cost reductionProvide project and technical leadership (including training) for local and system-wide process control technology applications and PLC TechniciansServe as a key EWP business resource for projects to install and apply new process control technology and methods, documentation and trainingCreate visibility and lead review of technology with potential for application in our manufacturing operationsBuild relationships with Corporate and other businesses process control resourcesInitiate and develop productive relationships with external suppliers of process and control technologyPartner with manufacturing and business leaders to ensure alignment of project portfolio with business and operational goalsMentor and assist the development of other processes and process control engineers and Technicians throughout the businessQualifications:
BS degree in Chemical, Electrical, Industrial, Computer or Mechanical Engineering or 3+ more years of experience in lieu of degree.Minimum of 3 years' experience in PLC programming or Process ControlGood understanding of different programming techniques such as AOI blocks.Intermediate to advanced programming of human machine interfaces (HMIs), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), and motion control technology.Serve as a resource to help elevate electrical group in trouble shooting PLC's and all electrical devices in the field.Ability to work with associates of all levels including managers, engineers, machine operators, quality technicians, line supervisors, maintenance technicians, information technologyExcellent verbal, written and presentation skillsExcellent interpersonal, facilitation, and problem-solving abilityCapacity to lead and participate in several projects simultaneouslyThe following qualifications are desired:Experience in wood products manufacturing and associated discrete control applicationsStrong data analysis skills and ability to diagnose complex process scenariosExperience in controller design and fundamental tuning approachesExperience with successfully applying advanced control solutions, such as model predictive control (MPC) for multi-variable processesProficiency using process historian systems, analysis tools and information systems such as Aspen IP/21 Process Explorer, and GE Proficy Plant ApplicationsProficiency with process identification and control tuning software tools such as Expertune, ProTuner, or EntechExperience developing applications with programming languages such as Visual Basic, C, or Java; databases such as Microsoft SQL ServerExperience in LEAN Manufacturing or similar principles and practicesFamiliarity with Windows operating systems, domains, Ethernet networksExperience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell and Wonderware systems About Weyerhaeuser We sustainably manage forests and manufacture products that make the world a better place.
