The CVOR nurse assists in monitoring and supporting the patient throughout the surgical procedure. They are responsible for collaborating closely with the entire surgical team to ensure the optimization of patient outcomes by confirming all necessary surgical supplies and equipment are sterile and functional, assisting with safe patient positioning and draping, and coordinating immediate post-surgical continued patient care.Essential Work Functions:Maintain proficiency in Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic surgical procedures including open and closed heart surgeriesPrepare the Cardiovascular operating room for the patient and surgical procedureAssemble equipment, supplies, medications, and implants, ensuring equipment functions and supplies are availableCollaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and the surgical team to deliver coordinated careUtilize data from surgical preference cards for the surgical procedure and surgeonPosition patients safely using approved devices to prevent injury and enable optimal surgical exposureActively participate in Universal Protocol and timeout to confirm patient identity, procedure, and surgical siteHandle and document specimens accurately to ensure diagnostic integrityProvide post-surgical care coordination, including patient handoff to the recovery teamAssess, plan, and evaluate the nursing care of the patient before, during, and after a surgical procedure until patient handoff to the next phase of careEnsure that sterile procedures are followed throughout the course of surgeryRespond effectively to emergencies, such as cardiac arrest, during surgeryPerform other duties as assigned within the scopeAdhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards Required Essential Skills:Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skillsThe ability to read, write, & communicate in the English language is requiredAbility to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skillsPhysical Abilities - Remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bendingInterpersonal Skills - To work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalismTechnical/Motor Skills - Ability to grasp, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment.Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public, customers, and meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally as well as working without assistance from other personnel.
