This role involves assessing pediatric patient health, implementing individualized care plans, administering treatments, and collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure high-quality, family-centered care. The Pediatric RN demonstrates expertise in child development, effective communication with children and families, and adherence to the highest standards of patient safety and professional ethics.Essential Work Functions:Explain procedures and treatments to children and their families in an appropriate manner to foster understanding and alleviate fearAdministers prescribed medications and considers pediatric-specific dosing and delivery techniquesPrepares and manage pediatric-specific equipment assisting physicians during treatment and examination of patientEnsure the comfort and safety of pediatric patients, incorporating developmental needs and minimizing distressObserves patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidentsTakes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal, assesses patient condition and responds appropriatelyResponds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocolAccurately document patient assessments, interventions, and responses in the medical recordDevelop and implement patient and family education plans, addressing topics such as treatment plans, medication management, and age-appropriate health educationCollaborate with families to develop and implement care plans that address the unique needs of pediatric patientsParticipate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing pediatric patient care and outcomesPerform other duties as assigned within the scope of practiceAdhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standardsRequired Essential Skills:Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skillsThe ability to read, write, & communicate in the English language is requiredAbility to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skillsPhysical Abilities - Remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bendingInterpersonal Skills - To work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalismTechnical/Motor Skills - Ability to grasp, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment.Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public, customers, and meeting deadlines under pressure.
