OverviewComprehensive Medical Physicist in Radiation Oncology, Interventional Radiology and Hospital Radiation Safety is responsible for performing all medical physics tasks necessary for the safe and accurate delivery of therapeutic ionizing radiation in collaboration with the radiation oncologists, interventional radiology, and staff of Carle Foundation Hospital. Comprehensive Medical Physicist in Radiation Oncology, Interventional Radiology and Hospital Radiation Safety will be responsible for maintaining State and Federal regulatory requirements specific to the practice of radiation therapy and radiation safety at Carle Foundation Hospital. (4) Comprehensive Medical Physicist will also provide radiation safety service for proper therapy of patients with brain tumors with radioactive seeds (Gamma Tile Cs-131) treated in Neurosurgery Department at Carle. He/she will create and monitor clinical quality indicators and collaborates with physicians to ensure appropriate treatment guidelines are utilized and monitored. OverviewThe Registered Radiologic Technologist is a professional care giver who assumes responsibility of patients for a designated time frame and to provide care, specifically in the Invasive Lab. The patient population consists of those requiring an invasive cardiology or invasive radiology study. The Registered Radiologic Technologist will assist the physician in all procedures and provide a valuable service to the patient and the team. QualificationsLicense/Certifications: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 1 year - American Heart Association (AHA); Registered in Radiography (R) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA); Licensed Radiologic Technologist - Radiography - Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)Education: Associate's Degree: Radiologic TechnologyOther Knowledge/Skills: ResponsibilitiesAdministers contrast material (when applicable), according to physician's request, by means of existing IV line or by performing venipuncture and placing IV line; recognizes and responds to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions. Anticipates set-up and needs for invasive procedures. Assists with inventory/supplies. Checks for correct patient and chart identification, diagnosis, and treatment position. Compiles pertinent clinical information pertaining to lab, pathology, etc. Administers medication in compliance with scope of practice. Documents accurately and completely. Explains procedure to patient and provides for patient care- including comfort, support, safety, and confidentiality. Performs all essential functions of the Invasive Lab Radiologic Technologist. Performs on call duties and/or work variable shifts as assigned to meet department needs. Required to float to all procedural areas. Maintains a clean and neat work area. Demonstrates competence in the operation of imaging, physiological monitoring, and related equipment; Performs basic troubleshooting for this equipment.
