POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of the supervising OB/GYN attending physician, this position performs assigned functions for continuity of patient care and efficient patient flow. The Certified Nurse-Midwife provides primary women's health care focusing on pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, care of the newborn and the family planning and gynecological needs of women. The nurse-midwife exercises a high level of independent judgment in managing patient care assessing risk status. The Certified Nurse-Midwife practices within a health care system that provides for physician consultation, collaborative management and referral as indicated by the health status of the patient. The nurse-midwife is responsible for providing full-scope care, which includes twenty-four hour in-house coverage. The nurse-midwife is administratively accountable to the Vice President of Medical Affairs and is clinically accountable to the supervising OB/GYN attending physician, Labor and Delivery Service Medical Director and lead Certified Nurse Midwife ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Demonstrates obstetrical and gynecological theoretical knowledge, hand skills; follow clinical guidelines, policies and procedures. Provides inpatient care in the hospital setting to women including timely ordering and accurate evaluation of diagnostic tests and management of minor complications.
