Responsibilities can include preoperative patient assessment, intraoperative assistance, and postoperative care management. The position requires exceptional surgical skills, critical thinking abilities, excellent communication, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and professional ethics in the operating room environment. Essential Work Functions:Assist the surgeon during operative procedures by providing exposure, hemostasis, and other technical functions that help the surgeon perform a safe operation with optimal results for the patientPosition, prep, and drape patients for surgery according to established protocols to ensure sterility and safetyAnticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team by providing the appropriate surgical instruments, supplies, and equipmentPerform wound closure, dressing application, and other technical tasks as directed by the surgeonMaintain sterile techniques and promptly address any breaches to ensure patient safetyMonitor patient's condition intraoperatively, report changes to the surgeon, and respond appropriately to emergent situationsObserve and document patient information as needed within scope of practiceActively participate in Universal Protocol and timeout to confirm patient identity, procedure, surgical site and adhere to all safety protocolsEnsure the availability and functionality of surgical machines, instruments, and implants, addressing any issues promptlyCollaborate with the surgical team, including anesthesiologists, circulating nurses, and scrub techs, to ensure efficient workflow and patient safetyStay informed on advancements in surgical techniques, robotics, and perioperative care through continuing educationPerform other duties as assigned within the scope of practiceAdhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standardsRequired Essential Skills:Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skillsThe ability to read, write, & communicate in the English language is requiredAbility to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skillsPhysical Abilities - Remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bendingInterpersonal Skills - To work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalismTechnical/Motor Skills - Ability to grasp, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment.Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public, customers, and meeting deadlines under pressure. Must be able to work under close supervision occasionally as well as working without assistance from other personnel.
