JOB DESCRIPTION:

HKA is seeking FEMA experienced Archaeologists for preservation activities following Hurricane Harvey’s aftermath in South Texas and other affected areas.

These individuals will deploy to areas declared for Federal disaster assistance for an average time period of 2 months on any given Task Order POP and provide intermittent support from the subcontractor’s office.

Candidate will be on-call and must be able to report for work within 24-48 hours of notice. Must be a US citizen and be able to pass a criminal background check.

 

Major Tasks:

  • We are looking for people who are detail oriented, well-organized, an excellent verbal and written communicator, comfortable with complex survey logistics, and technologically proficient with experience working with databases.
  • Tasks include field excavations (e.g. shovel testing, test unit excavation, shovel skimming), screening soils, recordation of field notes, the ability to use field equipment such as GPS units and digital cameras, and artifact processing.
  • Navigating and collecting geospatial data using handheld GPS units.
  • The candidates should expect prolonged stays away from the office for travel throughout the region for fieldwork. It is imperative that the candidate be able to work 8 to 10 hour days (or longer if necessary) in a variety of conditions. Stooping, bending and lifting are essential functions of this position. Salary is commensurate with experience.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • FEMA category mid-level Staff Archaeologists and Architectural Historians with Gulf Coast experience.
  • Successful candidates are preferably those who are FEMA badged and have disaster experience.
  • Successful candidates must have five years of subject matter (archaeology and architectural history) experience or more.
