- Good communication and listening skills in order to support survivors affected by a disaster.
- Ability to work on your feet canvassing communities to register disaster survivors for FEMA assistance programs. Positions within the cadre will require standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Basic knowledge on the use of electronic tablets and software applications.Tablets and other mobile reporting tools are used to enhance by DSA Reservists to assist survivors.
- Ability to respond to a request to activate and travel to a field office within 24 to 48 hours; a typical deployment may last 30 days or more depending on the need.
