We are looking for an experienced Asphalt Paving Machine Operator with screed knowledge to join our team for heavy highway civil construction projects in the Houston, Texas area. This role is responsible for operating asphalt pavers and adjusting screed settings to ensure accurate material placement and smooth finishes. Candidates must be detail-oriented and have a strong understanding of paving operations.
Job Duties Include:
- Operate asphalt paving machines to place hot mix asphalt according to line, grade, and slope.
- Set up and monitor screed operations for proper depth, width, and crown of mat.
- Coordinate with truck drivers and crew members to ensure continuous paving operations.
- Make screed adjustments on the fly to correct mat imperfections and maintain a smooth surface.
- Inspect equipment daily and perform basic maintenance tasks as needed.
- Maintain communication with the paving foreman and crew for seamless operation.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and quality standards throughout the project.
- Perform other administrative and operational duties as assigned.
Hourly rate of pay is $22 - $28+ depending on experience.

Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating asphalt paving machines and screed equipment.
- In-depth knowledge of paving operations, screed adjustment, and material behavior.
- Ability to work in outdoor environments with exposure to heat and physical labor.
- Capable of lifting up to 100 lbs. and standing for long periods.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working on TXDOT or other municipal paving projects.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Ability to operate other paving-related equipment (rollers, skid steers, etc.).
- Mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot minor issues with paving equipment.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- This position is physically demanding and performed primarily in the field at active construction sites. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, climbing, and reaching throughout the shift. Must have the physical strength and stamina to perform repetitive manual labor and operate heavy machinery in variable site conditions.
- May be required to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and tools weighing up to 100 pounds, often without mechanical assistance. Operators may engage in activities when entering, exiting, or servicing equipment, and must also demonstrate manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to control levers, pedals, and instruments inside the equipment cab. Good visual acuity, hearing, and spatial awareness are essential for safety and effective task execution in busy job sites.
- Work involves prolonged exposure to outdoor conditions, including extreme heat, cold, humidity, wind, rain, and direct sunlight. The environment may include loud noise, vibrations, moving vehicles, airborne dust, and hazardous materials. The role may also involve work at heights, confined spaces, and uneven or unstable terrain. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, high-visibility vests, and safety-toed boots must be worn at all times on job sites.
- Due to the nature of the work, employees must be capable of maintaining physical and mental focus throughout long shifts and reacting quickly to dynamic, potentially hazardous conditions. Reliable attendance, situational awareness, and strict adherence to safety protocols are essential requirements of the role.
