We are seeking an experienced Asphalt Roller Operator to join our paving team for heavy highway civil construction projects in the Houston, Texas area. This role involves operating rollers to compact asphalt to the proper density and smoothness in accordance with project specifications. Attention to detail and knowledge of compaction techniques are essential to success in this position.

 

Job Duties Include:

  • Operate steel drum and pneumatic rollers to compact hot mix asphalt.
  • Monitor mat temperatures, thickness, and density to ensure proper compaction.
  • Work closely with the paving crew to coordinate rolling patterns and timing.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and minor repairs on roller equipment.
  • Assist with other paving-related tasks as needed, including handwork.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Complete equipment logs and daily reports as required.
  • Perform other administrative and operational duties as assigned.

 

Hourly rate of pay is $21 - $26+ depending on experience.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating asphalt rollers in paving operations.
  • Understanding of compaction techniques, asphalt materials, and project specifications.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to detect surface imperfections.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working on TXDOT or municipal paving projects.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Ability to operate additional paving-related equipment (pavers, skid steers, etc.).
  • Basic mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting equipment issues.

 

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

  • This position is physically demanding and performed primarily in the field at active construction sites. The work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, climbing, and reaching throughout the shift. Must have the physical strength and stamina to perform repetitive manual labor and operate heavy machinery in variable site conditions.
  • May be required to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and tools weighing up to 100 pounds, often without mechanical assistance. Operators may engage in activities when entering, exiting, or servicing equipment, and must also demonstrate manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to control levers, pedals, and instruments inside the equipment cab. Good visual acuity, hearing, and spatial awareness are essential for safety and effective task execution in busy job sites.
  • Work involves prolonged exposure to outdoor conditions, including extreme heat, cold, humidity, wind, rain, and direct sunlight. The environment may include loud noise, vibrations, moving vehicles, airborne dust, and hazardous materials. The role may also involve work at heights, confined spaces, and uneven or unstable terrain. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, high-visibility vests, and safety-toed boots must be worn at all times on job sites.
  • Due to the nature of the work, employees must be capable of maintaining physical and mental focus throughout long shifts and reacting quickly to dynamic, potentially hazardous conditions. Reliable attendance, situational awareness, and strict adherence to safety protocols are essential requirements of the role.
