Houston Has Reason to Celebrate
By Christine Wardle Posted 11-13-2017

JobSparx has been part of the Houston scene for over 20 years. All of our staff live in the Houston area. Our kids go to school here. Rodeo is a big thing for us. So is Whataburger, and we wish there was one closer to our offices. Over the years, we have participated in parades, golf tournaments, job fairs, school fairs, and so much more - but never on a level like we saw on November 3, 2017.

The atmosphere was joyous, and people were coming together for a common cause, as we had been doing for the two months previous. It was hard to believe that in this happy crowd were people who had lost all of their material posessions. Some were still living in homes that were stripped down to the studs. Some still in hotels and motels as they made the calls, meetings and filled out paperwork to get their lives back to some semblance of normality. In the crowd were people who had been in boats and monster trucks, pulling their neighbors to safety for days and nights on end; people who had gone to neighbors and ripped out wet drywall, cabinets and sopping carpets in spite of the smell; people who had volunteered at food banks, shelters and schools; men and women who had listened to and comforted family, neighbors and total strangers as the enormity of the situation sank in.

What a crowd it was.

Estimates of the attendance top one million. One million people who had become a family through the shared trials of a natural disaster and the shared triumph of a baseball team.

As Houston continues to rebuild we will see new jobs and new companies rising from the destruction. Here at JobSparx, we are looking forward to having a part in getting our fellow Houstonians into the jobs they need and careers they love.

#HoustonStrong
