Are you in Primary Purpose:

Sr. Systems Engineer is an advanced role that utilizes experience and skills to support and optimize the Exelon IT organization by providing expert technical guidance, direction and insight to project managers and stakeholders regarding IT system solutions and improvements being deployed within the enterprise environment. Utilizes expert & skillful abilities to optimize and maintain high priority and complex IT system initiatives and project solutions to include both cloud, non-cloud and hybrid cloud models. Leads the design and evolution of Exelon’s data center infrastructure to support enterprise-wide applications, energy systems, and operational technologies.

The IT Sr. Systems Engineer provides technical leadership to support delivery and maintenance of IT solutions supporting Exelon. This role will evaluate IT infrastructure and application solutions and make recommendations for supporting and optimizing application and data workloads within these hosting models, includingdata center expansion, migration, and modernization projects. Sr. Systems Engineer demonstrates expertise for monitoring, configuration and maintenance, of current hosting services to support virtual hosting technologies, software tools and to lead and support all data center projects. This role will work in collaboration with other IT teams, leadership, enterprise business partners, vendors and project/design teams, in all aspects of the secure & reliable hosting of applications throughout Exelon's large & complex enterprise and real-time operational environments, including assessing capacity and performance of existing data centers to absorb workloads.

Note: This is an onsite position. Employees are required to be in office at least 5 days per week.

Must reside & sit within Exelon/ComEd service territories in the Joliet area. No relocation is available.

Primary Duties:
  • Establish evaluation, testing, lab and mockup solutions as needed. Serve as a senior resource and mentor in assigned daily support and deployments to operations and ensure solutions meet business requirements and established metrics (SLAs). Responsible for operating and maintaining complex solutions at the component level, including hands-on configuration, leading troubleshooting efforts and optimization of metrics for cloud based/hybrid/on-prem services. (45%)
  • Support projects, planning, maintenance and operations. Consults with leadership, project teams, application/service support teams and end users to optimize availability and performance analysis for potential changes related to both cloud, non-cloud and hybrid cloud models. Provide technical expertise and guidance for maintaining performance and reliability of key IT solutions. (20%)
  • Work closely with leadership and the team to develop future improvement plans, resource requirements, migrations strategies, and project schedules to improve service delivery and efficiency. Understand other technologies and service offerings and their impact to the delivery of cloud based/hybrid/on-prem services. (15%)
  • Provide feedback and guidance to leadership and peers to risks identified during business impact analysis, site risk assessments and disaster recovery planning. (15%)
  • Maintain technical knowledge and business acumen within our own discipline or function. Coach and mentor less experienced team members, apprentices and/or interns. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Networking 4 - 7 years' experience in IT infrastructure design, application design, cloud computing, disaster/recovery, or 6-9 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • Experience with system administration.

  • Maintained experience with the ability to design and troubleshoot Layer 1, Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks independently. Plus one of the following certifications: CDCMP, CCIE, DCCA, CompTIA Server+
