Cleveland Clinic’s J5-1 Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit sees some of the most complex cardiac cases in the world. J5-1, along with J5-3 and J6-2, is dedicated to caring for patients receiving coronary artery bypass surgery, valve repair or replacement, and minimally invasive or off-pump coronary bypass surgery. In addition to the post-operative open heart patient population, this unit also cares for all cardiac related admissions, including Ventricular Assist Devices (LVAD/RVAD), and Total Artificial Hearts (TAH). J5-1 also takes patients that are actively weaning from ventilator support.

A caregiver in this position works day/night rotation, from 7:00am7:30pm or 7:00pm7:30am.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
