Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit – Department Overview
Current Facility/Staff:
60-bed capacity, currently operating 33 rooms
Acute care inpatient rehab unit with specialty designation
Staff includes RNs, Nursing Assistants (NAs), Care Associates (non-licensed), and Clinical Coordinators
Full-Time Equivalents (FTE): 30
- Tenured staff
- Over 85% of patients return to community
- CARF accreditation for 30 years
Patient Population:
60–65% neurological diagnoses, amputees, and critically ill/injured patients
Average length of stay: 12 days
95% of patients transferred from main tower at NHRMC
Leadership:
Future Plans:
Relocating to a new facility 6 miles away, opening January 2028
Expansion to a 60 private room building
Early planning stages underway
Responsibilities:
- Oversee nursing staff, drive clinical excellence, and ensure compassionate, patient-centered care
Manage daily operations of the Rehabilitation unit
Lead, mentor, and develop nursing staff to deliver exceptional care
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies
Drive continuous quality improvement initiatives
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Master's degree preferred.
Experience:RN experience in an acute care setting required. Prior demonstrated leadership preferred.
Licensure/certification/registration: Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) preferred.Current RN licensure in appropriate state required. BLS required. Prior demonstrated leadership preferred.
Additional skills preferred: Board certification in area of practice.

Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, required. Graduate Degree, preferred.
- Experience:
- Three years clinical RN experience in an acute care setting, required.
- Two years demonstrated leadership experience, preferred.
- Licensure/Certification:
- Current RN licensure in appropriate state, required.
- CRRN certification preferred.
- NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire for Emergency Departments and Behavioral Health units, required.
- Board certification in area of practice, preferred.
- Additional Skills (required):Understands and applies: current and future trends/practice in area of responsibility; regulatory and governing standards, policies and procedures; information systems and software used in area of responsibility; equipment used in performing assigned duties; application of safety and infection control policies and procedures; skills in interviewing and selection process; understanding of budgeting, staffing, payroll and purchasing processes; implementation of competency, feedback, development and progressive discipline processes; teambuilding, conflict management, and interpersonal relationship skills; principles of adult learning and teaching methods/models; decision making, project leadership and consultation, delegation and communication skills; customer needs and expectations and knowledge for improvement to exceed customer expectations; principles of change management.
