Position Summary

The Licensed Master Social Work for Inpatient Behavioral Health provides direct services as a part of a multidisciplinary team. The Licensed Master Social Work completes social work assessments, develops an individual plan of care for patients, implements individual or group therapies, collaborates with families and community providers and participates in the discharge planning process.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Completes social work/psychosocial assessments on newly admitted patients.

  • Ensures goals and an individual plan of care are established for assigned patients.

  • Collaborates with individuals, families, health system and community based interdisciplinary professionals on the plan of care.

  • Ensures the timely development of the discharge plan for patients.

  • Facilitates individual or group modalities.

  • Completes family meetings or meetings with the patient’s support person(s).

  • Participates in the daily treatment team meeting.

  • Assist with the coordination of and participation in Probate Court and other hearings (ex: medications against will, conservatorship, commitment, probable cause)

  • Assist with monitoring quality indicators specific to inpatient social work.

  • Completes insurance reviews when indicated.

  • Completes timely charting in the electronic medical record.

  • Participates in clinical supervision with the Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Social Work program

  • Licensed Master Social Worker in the State of Connecticut

  • At least one year of experience working with behavioral health patients on an adult inpatient behavioral health unit or in an outpatient behavioral health setting.

  • Comfort with using DSM 5.

  • Excellent written and communication skills.

  • Highly organized and have the ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience providing clinical care and implementation of groups on an adult inpatient unit behavioral health unit

  • Previous experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Experience/knowledge of substance use disorders and treatment of patients with a dual diagnosis.
