As a Job Experience Training (JET) Coach, you will supervise students and young adults with learning disabilities in non-paid and/or paid vocational programs in an off-site business facility, enabling students to gain employable skills and provide substitute classroom instruction ensuring the implementation of educational practices and strategies endorsed by ChanceLight and in accordance with Atlantis Academy policies.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Implementing on-site and community-based instruction aligned with individual transition plans and student goals.

  • Assisting students and young adults in developing appropriate work behaviors and job-specific skills through on-the-job and community training.

  • Consulting with teachers and the center director to review student progress and support instructional and vocational plans.

  • Modeling professional work maturity skills, including building positive relationships with business partners and community agencies.

  • Supporting teachers and the director in lesson planning and in developing vocational skill-building opportunities.

  • Guiding students and young adults with disabilities in one-on-one or small group settings to strengthen job task performance.

  • Encouraging the development of workplace interpersonal skills that promote confidence and independence.

  • Assisting in assessing student strengths and needs related to vocational, social, and independent living skills.

  • Ensuring student safety in all work and community environments through active monitoring, close supervision, and proactive intervention.

  • Coordinating with employers and program partners to align work experiences with educational objectives.

  • Counseling students on job search strategies, career options, and employment readiness.

  • Monitoring student performance at various job sites by visiting employers, collecting evaluations, and addressing areas for growth.

  • Observing student performance in community settings to build functional and daily living skills.

  • Collecting and maintaining accurate program data and records as directed by teachers or the director.

  • Transporting students safely to and from work or community sites using program vehicles.

  • Tutoring students in vocational skills such as workplace expectations, interviewing, and self-advocacy to increase employability.

  • Complying with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, and reporting any concerns or violations appropriately.

  • Attending mandatory meetings and training sessions to stay current on best practices and compliance requirements.

  • Promoting a positive and respectful work environment through collaboration, professionalism, and courtesy.

  • Delivering engaging instruction using curriculum materials, technology, and educational software.

  • Collaborating with teachers and support staff to adapt instruction and provide accommodations that meet student needs.

  • Implementing clear and consistent behavioral standards that ensure a safe, structured, and effective learning environment.

  • Assisting with preparing instructional materials, planning activities, substitute teaching, and supporting classroom or work-site operations.

  • Performing other duties as assigned in support of student success and program excellence.

Qualifications Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with passage of basic skills test.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a closely related field of study preferred.
  • Hold currently or have the ability to obtain a valid FL state driver's license.
  • Willingness and ability to drive a company van and transport students within the community.
  • Prior experience and/or highly knowledgeable in providing individuals with vocational education, job coaching services and/or job experience training (JET).
  • Prior experience and/or knowledge in special education services and compliance, particularly for students with autism related disabilities, emotional disturbance and or challenging behaviors preferred.
  • Highly skilled in building relationships with students, parents, teachers and community and/or external business partners.
  • Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that move them toward realistic goals.
  • Proven ability to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while maintaining organization and attention to detail.
  • Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.
  • Well-versed in the use of relevant technology including experience with computers, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basic office equipment.
