Job Summary and Qualifications
The RN Bariatric Services Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and managing the care of patients undergoing bariatric surgery. This role serves as a liaison between patients, surgeons, multidisciplinary teams, and support services to ensure a seamless and supportive experience throughout the bariatric journey. The coordinator provides education, clinical support, and advocacy, ensuring compliance with program standards and accreditation requirements.
What You'll do in this role:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for bariatric patients from initial consultation through post-operative follow-up.
- Conduct pre-operative assessments and education sessions.
- Monitor patient progress and provide ongoing support and guidance.
- Collaborate with surgeons, dietitians, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans.
- Ensure patients meet medical and psychological criteria for surgery.
- Assist in scheduling procedures, tests, and follow-up appointments.
- Maintain documentation and records in accordance with accreditation standards (e.g., MBSAQIP).
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and data collection.
- Coordinate support groups and educational seminars.
- Ensure program compliance with national standards and guidelines.
- Assist with preparation for accreditation surveys and audits.
What qualifications you will need:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- ADA Registered Dietitian, or (RN) Registered Nurse, or Bachelors Degree
- Two to four years scrubbing/circulating experience in with bariatric surgery, or minimum of two years previous RN clinical experience in an acute care setting, or Bariatic program experience, or experience working with sensitive diagnosis and procedures preferred
