Job Summary:
As a Critical Facilities Operating Engineer, your primary focus will be on the electrical systems critical to the operation of data centers, while also assisting in HVAC mechanical, fire/life safety systems, and other infrastructure. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will ensure the reliability and efficiency of these systems, contributing to a safe and efficient working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Electrical Systems:Lead the installation, maintenance, and repair of critical electrical infrastructure, including switchgear, diesel generators, UPS systems, PDUs, and RPPs, ensuring seamless operation and compliance with relevant codes.
- HVAC and Mechanical Systems:Assist in maintenance & repair HVAC/CRAC systems, ensuring environmental controls are precisely calibrated and operational.
- Fire and Life Safety Systems:Oversee the operation and maintenance of fire alarm and suppression systems, ensuring compliance and readiness.
- Testing and Evaluation:Use advanced instrumentation to perform regular testing and calibration of electrical and HVAC systems to guarantee peak performance.
- Emergency Response:Be available for after-hours service to minimize downtime during critical maintenance and emergency situations.
- Leadership and Collaboration:Independently manage work assignments, act as a leader in the absence of a supervisor and support other trades in facility maintenance.
- Safety and Compliance:Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with OSHA standards and company policies, highlighting a strong safety culture and awareness.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Candidate must possess a high level of system knowledge in performing critical data center maintenance, repairs and emergency service (with a strong emphasis in electrical systems) on state-of-the-art critical support systems and must be able to demonstrate such capabilities.
- Capable of performing duties as a stationary Operating Engineer in a large facility.
- Ability to use computers using the Windows-based software environment.
- Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.
- Ability to communicate verbally in a clear and concise manner to supervisor and clients.
- After-hours availability is essential (Critical system maintenance is performed during off-hours).
- Must follow established Company practices and procedures and show a high level of safety awareness.
- Must be able to physically access all spaces and systems to make quality inspections, including roofs and equipment rooms.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must have valid state driver’s license
Preferred:
- Familiar with computer equipment and programs.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and local codes.
- Prior knowledge of working within a Data Center environment is a plus.
- 4-year apprenticeship program or five years of field experience in Critical Facilities.
Work Schedule: 2nd Shift 3 week rotating Schedule
Shift A: Mon - Friday 2:30PM-10:30PM
Shift B: Sat-Sunday 6:30AM-6:30PM
Monday-Tuesday 2:30PM-10:30PM
