RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answers the telephone and assists with responses to inquiries
- Orders items requested by other hospital departments and delivers items when received
- Receives and processes requests by other departments
- Monitors all recalled items via wholesaler report and documents all activities
- Assists with all areas of the drug distribution system, including procuring stock, rotating stock, filling and maintaining automated dispensing units and managing expired drugs
- Gathers items needed for miscellaneous requisitions, orders, crash carts, etc. to be checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing
- Delivers checked medications to the nursing units
- Prepackages and labels medications into unit doses from bulk supply
- Teaches and assist nursing and anesthesia personnel in regard to proper ADU procedures
- Maintains ADU in all aspects, customizing as needed to assure safe and efficient medication usage
- Reports all needed repairs for ADU to appropriate company and verify repairs are completed
- Manages charges and credits in computer system
- Reports on unusual occurrences to the pharmacist
- Reorders pharmacy supplies from approved vendors
- Maintains pharmacy in a clean and organized fashion
- Verifies and documents daily refrigerator and freezer temperature within correct range
- Documents inspection of all patient care areas monthly and reviews report with area charge nurse
- Maintains monthly expense report in Excel format
- Assists with chart audit as directed
- Performs pharmacy inventory count quarterly, or as directed
- Maintains pharmacy inventory at a minimal level
- Maintains professional and ethical standards by complying with laws and regulations related to pharmacy practice, using good professional judgement and exhibiting reliability and credibility
- Demonstrates empathy for patients and coworkers
- Trains new employees, as assigned
- Maintains confidentiality and patient privacy standards set by the department as well as the hospital
- Maintain a good working relationship with all levels of staff
- Documents inspection of all patient care areas monthly and reviews report with area charge nurse
- Coordination of mental and dexterity for sustained periods of time
- Must be able to concentrate and pay close attention to detail
- The ability to hear and communicate with others in a clear, understandable and professional manner on the phone and in person
- Participation in hospital committees as needed
- Effective organizational and interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication skills
- Other duties and special projects as assigned
