Clean Harbors is looking for a temporary (September 2025-June 2026) Labor & Employment Attorney to sit in Norwell, MA. The Labor & Employment Attorney provides legal advice and counsel on pending and potential claims.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times;
  • Provides advice and counsel to business units and Human Resources on employment issues including performance management, compliance, wage and hour matters, leaves of absence and accommodations and internal investigations;
  • Respond to attorney demand letters and EEOC/state agency matters;
  • Lead and partner with outside counsel on claim strategy, handling, and budget management;
  • Review and advise Company on policies and programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws;
  • Participate in training for internal clients on employment-related topics;
  • Conducts research and prepares legal analysis and memoranda on legal issues;
  • Anticipates and guards against legal risks involving the Company;
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned from time to time by management as required by the needs of the Company and its various business units.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • JD and admission to a state bar; MA state bar preferred

  • At least 5 years of employment and labor law experience at a law firm or in-house corporate environment;

  • Ability to simultaneously manage numerous matters and prioritize work to meet deadlines;

  • Experience advising internal clients on U.S. employment law matters (Canadian employment law knowledge is a plus);

  • Must have strong verbal and writing skills;

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, writing and communication skills;

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and/or ongoing direction;

  • Willingness to perform moderate travel when required;

  • Able to perform multiple tasks, work with short lead times, and meet tight deadlines;
