Job Summary and Qualifications

I. POSITION SUMMARY Position Summary:

Reports To (title): Supervises (title): Responsible to the Director of Surgical Services or OR Manager. Under the direct supervision of the charge nurse and/or the circulating nurse in the room. At this level, the surgical technologist functions independently in all Level I and Level II procedures. Also serves as a preceptor for new staff on Level I and Level II procedures. Responsible to take first and second call as required by the department. Is responsible for appropriate instrumentation adjustment relevant to the ages and sizes of the patients served, i.e. Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric. OR Manager/Director, Surgical Services

II. POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Two years of experience and/or Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification through National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical

DEGREE OF SUPERVISION REQUIRED Degree of Supervision Required: Assisting (NBSTSA) or equivalent. Must maintain required education and certification at this level, if requirements are not maintained employee will be transferred to appropriate level within 30 days. American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification. Prefer completion of surgical technologist course. One year operating room experience preferred. Good communication skills, both orally and written. Demonstrates eye/hand coordination and anticipatory skills. Ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care. Must be free from corrective action for a minimum of 12 months for advancement consideration. Has frequent interaction with physician, nursing staff, ancillary departments, patients and their families.

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
