Special Education Supervisor– Key Responsibilities:

  • 1. Program & Instructional Oversight

    • Ensure high-quality delivery of special education services in alignment with IEPs and in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).

    • Support curriculum development and instructional leadership across buildings.

    • Conduct regular building walkthroughs and assess program strengths and areas for improvement.

    • Participate in professional development and coordinate training for staff.

    2. Compliance & Case Management

    • Maintain compliance with IDEA, Section 504, ADA, and Indiana Article VII.

    • Oversee timely and accurate completion of IEPs, evaluations, and Medicaid documentation.

    • Ensure student files (paper and electronic) meet state and federal standards.

    • Facilitate IEP meetings using a strengths-based, family-centered approach.

    3. Staff Supervision & Development

    • Provide technical assistance and ongoing support to certified and non-certified staff.

    • Evaluate staff performance and recommend improvements as needed.

    • Participate in hiring processes, job fairs, and staff onboarding/training.

    • Foster involvement in professional organizations (e.g., ICASE, CEC).

    4. Collaboration & Communication

    • Serve as a liaison among staff, administrators, families, and outside agencies.

    • Effectively communicate processes for referrals, evaluations, IEPs, and re-evaluations.

    • Participate in team meetings (Ex. Ed. staff, parent forums, multidisciplinary teams).

    • Coordinate with transportation, Go Solutions (Medicaid), and school leadership.

    5. Administrative Responsibilities

    • Monitor budgets, recommend purchases, and ensure adherence to collective bargaining agreements.

    • Review assessment data and support data-driven decision-making at assigned schools.

    • Promote positive administrative and personnel relations.

    • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Exceptional Education.

Special Education SupervisorQualifications:

  • Education:

    • Master’s degree in some area of Special Education.
    • Three to five years teaching or therapist (Speech, OT, PT, Psych.) experience in special education preferred.
    • Valid Indiana Teaching, Therapist, Psychologist (OT, PT, SLP, RT, Psych.) Certification.
  • Knowledge & Skills:

    • Expertise in special education curriculum and service provision.

    • Knowledge of general education curriculum.

    • Understanding of the individual needs of students with disabilities from various language and cultural backgrounds.

    • Strong knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding the delivery of special education and related services.

    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, students, parents, governmental and community agencies, and employers.

    • Ability to problem-solve, work on a team, use data to guide work, and clearly communicate to multiple stakeholders.

Special Education SupervisorPhysical Demands:

  • Environment: Occasional exposure to dust, pollen, and fumes.

  • Activity: Frequent engagement in tasks such as reaching, handling, standing, walking, and lifting items up to 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Sensory: Ability to perform essential job functions with or without assistive devices or accommodations, including working in moderate to high noise levels.
