Job Description:

Acting as the Manager of the Main OR Surgical Department, you will work collaborativelywith the unit'sclinical resource leader and the OR Educator to complete the unit'smanagement team, reporting to the Clinical Director of Perioperative Services. The Main Operating Room Manageracts as a leader in the development of the unit staff and is responsible for the day-to-day operations.

Assisting the unit by taking on the charge role or going into the roomwhen staffing is low, collaboration on new hire orientation, being the interface between staff and surgeons,andcontinued development of current nursing student-to-hire programs. The Hospital of Central CT isa Level III trauma center and within that designation the Main Operating Room has a varied mix of surgical volume.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Supporting the unit CRL/charge nurse
  • Rounding on theunit
  • Conducts hiring, directing, development and evaluation of staff.
  • Identifies and resolves issues affecting the delivery of patient care services for the assigned unit
  • Assisting the unit by taking on the charge role or going into the roomwhen staffing is low
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services to both units
  • Monitors and adheres to budget. Approves or monitors expenditures, purchases, and other actions to ensure compliance with budget guidelines
  • Collaborates with the nurse educator to develop programs designed to assist the staff nurse in the progression of novice to expert in the practice of nursing
  • Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and services. Evaluates factors related to safety, outcomes, effectiveness, cost and social impact when developing and implementing practice innovations
  • Provides leadership and direction to nursing unit staff
  • Ensures all quality, financial, and service benchmarks as well as compliance with environmental care standards are met
  • Creation ofstaff schedules and staff time keeping
  • Continued development of current nursing student-to-hire programs
  • Other Duties as assigned
  • Reflects ANA Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice as well as utilizes AORN guidelines

Qualifications


Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Master’s Degree or current enrollment in a Master’s program is preferred

Minimum Requirements

  • Current CT RN license
  • 5 years minimum currentexperience as an Operating Room RN
  • Previous management, Charge RN, or NurseEducator experience required
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Outstanding communications skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated abilityto scrub on basic surgical procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate others
