What this job involves: This role requires an experienced technician to maintain, calibrate, and repair instrumentation and equipment in a regulated environment, specializing in cold storage units and monitoring systems. The position combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities in supporting critical temperature-controlled infrastructure.
Your day-to-day tasks will include:
- Calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair cold storage equipment including ultra-low temperature freezers, refrigerators, and environmental chambers
- Install, calibrate, and replace temperature data loggers and monitoring instruments
- Document all maintenance activities and calibration data in the CMMS through detailed work orders
- Provide rapid response to critical temperature excursions and equipment failures
- Develop and update technical documentation, calibration procedures, and preventive maintenance SOPs
- Train, mentor, and supervise technicians and vendors
- Lead technical investigations and improvement initiatives as the subject matter expert
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Participate in mandatory on-call rotation for emergency after-hours support
- Work overtime or temporarily modify shift as needed
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Demonstrated ability to maintain, calibrate, and repair instrumentation and equipment in a regulated environment, specializing in cold storage units and monitoring systems
- Ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladders, stepladders, and stairs as required during shift
- Ability to bend/stoop, squat repetitively during shift
- Ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis during shift
- Ability to walk extensively throughout the facility during shift
- Physical ability to lift 50 pounds
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2-year Technical Associate's degree or certificate in process control instrumentation, electrical or a mechanical trade
- 5+ years as a field service technician in a GMP environment strongly preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of GMP documentation requirements and compliance standards
- Experience with cold chain equipment validation and temperature mapping
- Strong understanding of environmental monitoring systems for regulated environments
- Excellent troubleshooting and technical problem-solving abilities
- Superior communication skills for technical reporting and cross-functional collaboration
- Detail-oriented with exceptional documentation practices
- Ability to work independently and prioritize critical tasks effectively
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications
- Capability to read and interpret engineering documents and equipment schematics
Work Environment:
- Work performed in a regulated GMP environment requiring adherence to strict protocols
- Exposure to various temperature-controlled environments including cold storage areas
- Periodic on-call responsibilities requiring rapid response to emergency situations
- May require working in confined spaces and at heights when servicing equipment
- PPE required when working with specific equipment or materials
