The Registered Nurse (RN) Lead partners with the Clinic Administrator to support Novant Health Medical Group (NHMG) goals by providing clinical leadership, supervising up to 9 FTEs, and ensuring high-quality, compassionate, and patient-centred care in the ambulatory setting.

This RN Lead plays a critical role in cultivating a culture of safety, inclusion, professional accountability, and continuous improvement. Using Novant Health’s First Do No Harm (NHFDNH) safety behaviours and high reliability strategies, the RN Lead ensures a safe and efficient environment that supports both team members and patients.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership & Oversight

  • Collaborate with the Clinic Administrator to implement NHMG initiatives and goals.

  • Coordinate clinical operations and delegate care responsibilities appropriately.

  • Supervise team performance, provide timely feedback, and monitor clinical competencies.

  • Serve as a mentor and role model, fostering team development and retention.

Patient Care & Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Lead the nursing care process through comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised patient care plans.

  • Provide age-specific nursing care, including IV starts, dressing changes, emergency response (CPR), and telephone triage.

  • Advocate for patients while educating them and their support systems on care plans and self-management.

  • Ensure care is aligned with evidence-based practice, ANA standards, and Joint Commission requirements.

Communication & Documentation

  • Utilise SBARQ and other communication tools to ensure continuity and clarity across care teams.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation to support patient care and clinical outcomes.

Delegation & Supervision

  • Assign tasks based on team members’ competency and scope of practice.

  • Support new team member orientation and competency validation.

  • Lead performance improvement and staff development efforts.

Quality & Performance Improvement

  • Monitor clinical quality measures, patient satisfaction data, and regulatory compliance.

  • Drive innovation and lead change initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and patient outcomes.

Lab & Non-Clinical Oversight (As Applicable)

  • Supervise specimen collection, lab documentation, and QC procedures.

  • Monitor inventory, manage supply orders, and track team member attendance and punctuality.

Human Experience & Culture

  • Coach team members to deliver outstanding patient experiences through empathy, communication, and culturally competent care.

  • Foster an inclusive and respectful workplace where every team member feels valued and empowered.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)

  • Preferred: Advanced certifications or academic degree beyond the BSN

Experience:

  • Required: Minimum 2 years of direct nursing experience

  • Preferred: At least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role

Licensure/Certification:

  • Required: Current RN licensure in the appropriate state

  • Required: Current BLS certification per NH Life Support Training Policy (NH-HR-3096)

Preferred Skills & Competencies

  • Strong critical thinking, delegation, and time management abilities

  • Proven leadership and team development skills

  • Proficiency in EMR systems and documentation standards

  • Experience in ambulatory or outpatient clinic environments

  • Commitment to high-reliability healthcare and evidence-based practice

  • Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse setting
