Job Summary and Qualifications
The ECMO Coordinator (EC) is a registered nurse or perfusionist who serves in the role of expert, educator, and resource who coordinates and implements daily operations of the Cardio help Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) program. This role encompasses the organization of human, fiscal, and other resources, development of personnel, compliance with regulatory and professional standards, strategic planning, and fostering of collaborative relationships. The ECMO Coordinator aligns with team leaders to conduct an evidence-based program focused on achieving exceptional patient outcomes. The ECMO Coordinator acts as the lead ECMO Specialist (ES) and participates in direct patient care as needed. The EC ensures daily practice and ensures that supplies and equipment are available. This role oversees and ensures ECMO practices are concurrent with hospital, operational, and strategic goals, policies, and guidelines, and makes improvements where possible. The ECMO Coordinator works in close collaboration with Perfusion and ES teams regarding the initiation, management, and removal of ECMO. Participates in daily rounds. The ECMO Coordinator develops and adapts the ECMO training curriculum to meet the educational needs of staff associated with the program and reviews the proficiency of ES staff, including clinical competency, decision-making, and professional conduct. The ECMO Coordinator provides feedback to leaders on ES performance as deemed necessary. The ECMO Coordinator pursues quality and excellence by conducting case reviews, pursuing performance/process improvement initiatives, and sharing program outcomes and statistics with program, site, and divisional leaders. The ECMO Coordinator monitors program data collection and ensures accurate record-keeping and data abstraction for the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) registry. The ECMO Coordinator keeps current with new developments and research related to ECMO, including networking with other ECMO centers both within and outside the HCA enterprise. The ECMO Coordinator is involved in product evaluation and assessment and will assist with program development and implementation of new technology. Other duties as assigned may include assisting with CVICU quality performance and educational support
What qualifications you will need:
- FL RN Licensure required or obtained within 90 days of hire if licensed with applicable RN Compact Licensure.
- BLS
- ACLS (within 90 days of hire/transfer).
- 3-5 years of CVICU Nursing experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of CVICU and ECMO Specialist experience.
- ELSO Adult ECMO Practitioner Certification (E-AEC) preferred. Is required within the first year in the Shock Coordinator position.
