Nurse Manager - Pediatric Care Center

ChristianaCare Health System is seeking a Nurse Manager for our Pediatric Care Center located at our Women's & Children's building on our Newark Campus. The 24-hour Pediatric Care Center will provide seven beds for emergent care and seven beds for short-stay inpatient and observation care. The center will also provide expert care to children and adolescents with behavioral health emergency needs and provide appropriate referral sources for follow-up care.
The Nurse Manage will oversee the program of care for pediatric patients in the Pediatric Center, acquires and maintains knowledge in pediatric and pediatric emergency nursing practice, and assumes responsibility for the professional development of self, other nursing staff, and students.
Collaborates with the Medical Director-Pediatric Center, as well as members of the Emergency Department management team, to establish processes, goals and strategies for meeting the continuing care needs of the pediatric population and their family.

In this role, the Nurse Manager will be responsible for:
- Assures compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
- Identifies priorities of leadership and management responsibilities and demonstrates the ability to delegate.
- Enables a relationship-based care approach to care delivery on assigned unit.
- Performs routine leader rounds on patients and caregivers on assigned unit to establish visibility, teamwork, and monitoring the level of care/practice.
- Remains cognizant of risk management issues and takes appropriate measures to address.
- Supports and communicates department and unit-based quality and safety initiatives.
- Manages nursing practice and care delivery in designated unit.
- Promotes the autonomy of the nursing staff, encouraging independent decision making and problem solving.
- Supports and facilitates a culture of nursing professional governance on unit.
- Formulates and effectively executes innovative leadership strategies to promote excellence.
- Responsible for staffing and scheduling, allocating paid time off to meet staffing needs for unit census. .
- Maintains position control in a cost-effective manner.
- Interviews and hires potential employees, assuring the technical and professional development of staff.
- Coaches, disciplines and evaluates staff according to CCHS policy
Experience & Requirements:
- Completed BSN and Master’s degree or alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree and Masters of Science in Nursing required
- Current RN Licensure accepted in the state of Delaware required.
- BLS certification required.
- 5 years appropriate clinical and leadership experience required
- Professional certification in a related nursing specialty required
- Nurse Executive certification preferred
