The Billing Manager has supervisory responsibility and oversight for the Billing Department that is comprised of Data Entry, Scanning & Research; Credit, Collections & Correspondence; Denials and Payments; Institutional Billing & Group Accounts; Financial Applications. He/she ensures that the daily operations of the Department are performed in compliance with currently accepted billing and reimbursement practices and principles relating to health care operations, and all applicable laws and agreements governing medical billing including, but not limited to, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA); the security of Individually Identifiable Health Information found at Title 45, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Parts 160, 162, and 164; Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Regulations & Guidance.

Salary: 80,000 + depending on experience

- High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor Degree preferred
- Minimum of five (5) years managerial/supervisory experience
- Minimum of three (3) years in medical billing
- Experience in assessing and conducting training programs, preferably in a health care or laboratory setting desired
- Computer skills with specific knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Knowledge of current insurance billing requirements
- Excellent organizational skills
- Proven problem solving and decision-making skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English)
- Excellent telephone etiquette
- Ability to travel
- Passes company drug testing program pre-hire and thereafter on a periodic and/or random basis
In this role, you will-
- Oversee the day-to-day functions of the Billing Department; must also be willing to assist with daily work if necessary to address increases in unbilled claims, denials, etc.
- Streamlines billing and collections processes
- Develops, reviews and revises written policies and procedures that govern the Department’s functions
- Develops and implements a quality assurance plan that ensures the functions of the Department are being performed in compliance with all laws and regulations governing health care billing
- Conducts monthly staff meetings to educate staff on changes in policy/procedure and communicate important information
- Standardizes the methods through which work will be accomplished
- Develops and provides billing reports to the organization’s Senior Team as necessary
- Monitors accounts receivables and takes steps to improve collections in accordance with established goals
- Ensures that monthly patient statements and delinquent notices are sent out as scheduled
- Creates and implements training programs to ensure that the Billing staff is aware of current laws, regulations and best practices
- Works with the organization’s Training Specialist and implements specific training for targeted problem locations
- Measures and monitors demographic front-end errors and develops a feedback mechanism to communicate those errors to the appropriate supervisors/managers so that they are able to take corrective action
- Keeps abreast of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial and managed care insurance issues and regulations
- Responds to insurance company, physician office, client, or patient concerns as they are escalated from Billing Supervisors or at the request of Senior Team members
- Monitors staff and conducts periodic performance evaluations
- Counsels and disciplines staff as necessary in accordance with human resource guidelines
- Approves Billing Supervisor timesheets and PTO requests; ensures availability of staff necessary to effectively handle daily activities
- Assists other departments as required
- Willingly shares knowledge with others to effectively accomplish assigned tasks
- Adheres to confidentiality, safety, compliance, and legal requirements
- Maintains consistent and reliable attendance and complies with company guidelines on attendance
- Performs other duties as assigned
