Position Summary
We're seeking a skilled Pastry Chef who is passionate about scratch-made baked goods, excited to take ownership of a growing menu, and eager to help scale our caf concept beyond a single location. This is a hands-on role perfect for someone who thrives in both creative development and operational execution.
You'll work closely with ownership and kitchen leadership to create standout pastries and baked items that align with our brand, train future staff, and help build the systems and recipes needed for a successful multi-location rollout.
Key Responsibilities
Culinary Leadership & Product Execution
- Execute and evolve a consistent menu of high-quality pastries, from laminated doughs and scones to cookies and other baked goods.
- Lead the daily preparation, baking, and finishing of all itemsensuring excellence in both taste and appearance.
- Manage production schedules and preparation lists with efficiency and attention to detail.
- Champion high standards in food safety, cleanliness, and kitchen organization.
Standardization & Expansion Support
- Collaborate with ownership to create standardized recipes and prep guides for future Sage locations.
- Train and mentor future bakers or kitchen staff in Sage's baking methods and culture.
- Help evaluate and implement tools or equipment to support scaled production as needed.
- Maintain ingredient sourcing relationships that align with our brand values and product quality.
Inventory, Compliance & Communication
- Label, date, store, and rotate ingredients and products following FIFO and food safety guidelines.
- Monitor stock levels, order supplies as needed, and communicate inventory needs proactively.
- Support broader caf operations with flexibility and teamworkjumping in where needed to contribute to a seamless guest experience.
What We're Looking For
- Experience: 2–4 years of professional baking or pastry experience preferred. Caf, hotel, or scratch bakery background a plus.
- Skills: Strong understanding of baking techniques, dough handling, finishing work, and kitchen organization.
- Mindset: Entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for building something from the ground up.
- Collaboration: A team player who thrives in a supportive, evolving environment and is excited to grow with us.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work early mornings and weekends as needed in a caf setting.
