What this job involves: We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician for our biotech distribution center to join our team working in a regulated GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) environment. The ideal candidate will have specialized knowledge in maintaining critical temperature-controlled equipment including ultra-low freezers, cold rooms, and HVAC systems that support our regulated operations.
Your day-to-day tasks will include:
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on ultra-low temperature freezers (-80°C), cold rooms, and HVAC systems
- Execute maintenance activities in compliance with GMP regulations and standard operating procedures (SOP)
- Respond to emergency calls and equipment alarms to minimize downtime of critical equipment
- Document all maintenance activities according to GMP requirements
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system issues across specialized equipment
- Participate in validation activities for new and modified equipment
- Support engineering projects related to facility infrastructure improvements
- Maintain accurate records of parts inventory and coordinate procurement of supplies
- Collaborate with facilities team, quality assurance, and other departments to ensure equipment reliability
- Work with minimal to no supervision
- Work overtime or temporarily modify shift schedule as needed
- Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support
Desired or Preferred Experience and Technical Skills:
- Technical degree/certification in HVAC, Refrigeration, or related field
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience maintaining scientific or laboratory equipment, preferably in a GMP environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of refrigeration systems, particularly ultra-low temperature applications
- Experience with building management systems (BMS) and environmental monitoring systems (EMS)
- Proficiency in reading electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Understanding of GMP requirements and their application to equipment maintenance
- Valid EPA certification for refrigerant handling preferred
- Strong documentation skills with attention to detail
Required Skills and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a maintenance role
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladders, stepladders, and stairs as required during shift
- Ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis during shift
- Ability to walk extensively throughout the facility during shift
- Ability to bend/stoop, squat repetitively during shift
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a regulated GMP facility
- May require working in temperature-controlled environments
- Some emergency/on-call duties required
- Safety protocols must be strictly followed when handling refrigerants and working with electrical systems
