This is a specialized position crucial in bridging the gap between intensive care and general medical-surgical units. Stepdown nurses play a pivotal role in managing patients who are transitioning out of the Intensive Care Unit but still require vigilant monitoring and advanced nursing care. We also care for patients who need an increased level of care and more frequent assessments depending on their condition. Job Summary

• Monitor and interpret patients' vital signs and respond appropriately

• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed

• Provide care and support to patients transitioning from ICUs

• Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare team members to develop care plans

• Perform detailed patient assessments and document findings in medical records

• Manage intravenous lines and advanced medical equipment

• Educate patients and their families about post-hospital care and wellness

• Respond to medical emergencies and provide immediate care

• Assist with patient mobility and ensure their comfort

• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with healthcare regulations

• 3-5:1 patient to nurse ratios (dependent on acuity)

• Manage drips

• Manage oxygen delivery devices (stable ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP, High Flow, and Tracheostomy)

• Manage care for wide variety of conditions (respiratory compromise, stroke, cardiac conditions, sepsis, organ failure, DKA, and End of Life care)

Qualifications

Active RN license, BLS and ALS certification, NIH Stroke Certification (completed during orientation)

Unit Summary

We are a 19 private bed unit with bedside monitoring in every room with modern equipment, EKG available at the bedside. Computers inside and outside each room for convenient access to charting. Unit dedicated case manager, critical care educator, and clinical support resource nurse. We are a unit best known for our teamwork and accountability. All our staff work at the top of their scope to ensure the best, quality care for our patients.
