Your Role
The Director, Pharmacist will play a strategic leadership role, partnering with pharmacy service providers, internal Blue Shield of California teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to resolve high-impact operational challenges. This role is responsible for ensuring seamless, end-to-end issue resolution and transparent communication that supports scalable and stable service delivery. The Director will lead efforts to optimize the pharmacy service provider operating model, with a particular focus on IT data exchange processes. The role will also mentor operational staff, lead strategic initiatives, and provide critical thought leadership on modular solution monitoring and governance.
Your Work
In this role, you will:
- Partner with pharmacy service providers and BSC business units to proactively identify, resolve, and communicate on high-impact operational issues.
- Provide leadership or thought partnership in redesigning or refining workflows and processes to drive scalable, stable operations.
- Serve as a key escalation point for operational issues requiring executive-level oversight.
- Lead Pharmacy Service Provider Optimization
- Lead or influence the design and evolution of the pharmacy service provider operating model to ensure efficiency, quality, and integration with BSC IT systems.
- Drive improvements to the IT data exchange framework, ensuring alignment with compliance, security, and performance expectations.
- Establish and maintain forums and processes to continuously monitor and govern pharmacy modular solution and operating models, including associated IT integration.
- Provide thought leadership in creating metrics, KPIs, and dashboards for operational health and strategic alignment.
- Mentor and develop high-potential operational staff, cultivating future leadership and deepening bench strength across the department.
- Promote a culture of accountability, learning, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Provide operational expertise and leadership for other high-priority strategic initiatives as assigned.
- Influence and collaborate with executives and senior leaders across departments to ensure alignment and integration of operational goals.
Your Knowledge and Experience
- Requires a current active and unrestricted California Registered Pharmacist (RPh) license
- Requires Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) clinical degree
- MBA, MHA, or additional leadership training is preferred
- Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in pharmacy operations, healthcare strategy, or healthcare service delivery
- Minimum 6+ years in a leadership or senior management role
- Deep understanding of pharmacy benefit management, healthcare provider integration, and IT systems related to healthcare data exchange
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills
- Proven experience working cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with modular healthcare platforms or service provider ecosystems
- Familiarity with Blue Shield of California systems and processes is preferred
