The Hospital Medicine Department at St. Vincent’s Medical Center is dedicated to caring for acutely ill, hospitalized patients.
Advanced Practitioner Night Hospitalist Role Scope-
The Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant is responsible for inpatient clinical management of patients, assuring timely communication, deep collaboration, and comprehensive care to ensure patient medical needs are met. Responsibilities include:
Respond to calls from floor RNs on patient care needs
Evaluate and manage a diverse caseload of medical inpatients, including responding to overnight changes in patient status.
Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations on newly admitted patients both from the emergency department anddirect transfers from outside facilities.
Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans in coordination with attending physicians.
Respond promptly to urgent/emergent calls and rapid response activations.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and perform bedside procedures within scope of practice.
Communicate effectively with nursing staff, consulting services, and other interdisciplinary team members. Document patient encounters clearly and thoroughly in the electronic medical record.
Contribute to the delivery of positive outcomes by implementing quality initiatives that address and improve patient safety as well as enhance patient/family experience
Closed ICU with 24 hour intensivist coverage
Schedule – Permanent Night (5pm-5am)

Qualifications
Advanced Practitioner Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Master’s program preferred
Licensed, or eligible to be licensed, as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Connecticut
Certification, or eligible to be certified, as a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
Acute Care Board Certification required for Nurse Practitioners
Hospitalist experience highly preferred
