Summary

JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a member of the Nursing Dept. The RN has responsibility and accountability for the provision of nursing care.

  • Collects and documents health and forensic data on patients while promoting the private environment.
  • Applies the principles of growth and development and utilizes the nursing process in all aspects of patient care.
  • Maintains a safe working environment through adhering to CHCs policies and procedures.
  • Documents and reports variances in outcomes and critical values utilizing readback procedures within guideline timeframes.
  • Communicates with Associates physicians, patients, law enforcement agencies and families to ensure that plans and associated interventions are understood, implemented and evaluated as appropriate.
  • Promotes therapeutic relationships with patients.
  • Formulates outcomes in collaboration with other health team workers.
  • Coordinates human material and financial resources and services for patient care and ensures appropriate resources are available upon patient discharge.
  • Reacts to outcome variances by coordinating collaborative interventions with patient medical care team and family.
  • Calls for additional help by utilizing the Critical Outreach Team and other resource codes established by CHC.
  • Implements precautions to prevent hospital-acquired infections and injuries. Provides frequent rounding and other interventions to avoid falls and restraint use. Implements and documents restraints and patient observers per policy.
  • Adheres to established medication administration policies. Utilizes all provided safety equipment and standard of nursing procedures in medication administration, including medication reconciliation and 5 Rights. Medication reconciliation must be completed on every patient prior to discharge.
  • Adheres to CHC policies and procedures, regulatory and governing agency requirements, standards and specialty evidenced-based practices such as safe lifting procedures and JCAHO standards. Utilizes available resources and documents accordingly
  • Promotes teamwork. Demonstrates flexibility, creativity and willingness to accept challenges. Willing to adapt to institutional changes.
  • Participates in measures to achieve goals established by regulatory and governing agencies. This includes but not limited to Never events and National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Utilizes good clinical judgment. Utilizes critical thinking and problem-solving abilities as appropriate in all aspects of patient care.
  • Accepts accountability and responsibility in all matters. Manages his/ her own work activities. Promotes efficiency and seeks ways to improve processes. Ensures all HR policies are followed, including the prohibited use of computers and cell phones for personal use during work hours.
  • Promotes patient flow. Adheres to admitting and transfer timeframes.
  • Ensures transfer processes are completed, including but not limited to: medication reconciliation valuables list and inter/intra-facility transfer paperwork. Fully utilize a tracking board by promptly removing patients once the room is vacated.
  • Utilizes an established chain of command to resolve problems, complaints, disputes and requests.
  • Participates in the employment process related to self-peers and subordinates. Seeks assistance when needed. Provides assistance and serves a mentor/ preceptor to improve the team and professional practice environment for areas of competence and expertise.


REQUIREMENTS

  • Required Associate's Degree
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree
  • 18 months of experience in Emergency, Trauma or Family Birth Place Nursing
  • CPR - AHA Healthcare Provider
  • RN - Registered Nurse through MBON
  • RN FNE A - RN Forensic Adult within one year
