Overview:
Waterway is currently hiring a Field Maintenance Technician to support our Northern Chicago-area locations.This position plays a vital role in maintaining the safety, functionality, and appearance of multiple sites. The Field Maintenance Technician oversees and coordinates the maintenance of car wash systems and technology while also owning the preventative maintenance schedule, safety and compliance standards, and the overall appearance of each location including landscaping and interior/exterior facility presentation. This role also supports renovations of existing locations and assists in the build-out of new ones.
The Field Maintenance Technician is a hands-on contributor who works closely with the local maintenance and store leadership teams. We’re seeking a collaborative problem-solver with a strong blend of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic experience. The right candidate is able to self-manage, prioritize tasks, deliver high-quality work, and contribute positively to the team dynamic.
This position works with a team to oversee multiple Chicago locations. Reliable transportation is a must. All tools/supplies are provided and stored at each location.

Compensation and Benefits:
- Starting compensation: Target of $70,000/year (paid hourly), depending on experience

Responsibilities:
- Safety Leader – Act as a safety role model and expects the same from others
- Install, inspect, repair, and operate car wash equipment
- Load/unload and manage car wash chemicals, supplies, and equipment
- Monitor and manage utility, chemical, and parts usage, along with building and grounds costs
- Provide informal leadership to maintenance team members and collaborate with store management
- Maintain site safety, chemical application protocols, inventory, and preventative maintenance
- Ensure the consistent upkeep of facilities and landscaping to maintain a clean, professional appearance
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Degree in a technical field OR 2+ years of experience in a maintenance-related field
- Electrical experience required; experience with 480v 3-phase systems preferred (or must complete training within 12 months)
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to work a flexible 5 day a week schedule that includes non-traditional hours, weekends & holidays
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
- Able to comply with the company's professional appearance standards

Physical Requirements:
- Environment: Outdoor work in all weather conditions; exposure to noise, chemicals, machinery, and high-pressure equipment
- Physical: Lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, standing, climbing, and overhead work
- Sensory: Clear vision and hearing required to navigate and work safely around equipment
- Language: Must speak and understand English for safety and operational communication
- Schedule: Punctuality and reliability are critical. Must be able to work irregular hours, including weekends, holidays, and overtime when needed
