Responsible for entering patient, client, billing and test information into the Laboratory Information System. Information is either typed and 10-keyed into the system or accepted through electronic interfaces established with CPL clients. Accuracy in this process is critical as it is the fundamental process upon which all laboratory operations are based (testing, reporting, billing, etc.) Due to the exposure of confidential information and to the potential of violating federal law, a thorough understanding of and adherence to CPL policies and procedures and compliance regulations are essential.

  • Utilizes distribution resources and knowledge of testing material to keep CPL clients supplied with necessary materials to submit samples to the lab for testing.
    • Has or develops knowledge of all types of specimen collection devices used for laboratory testing
    • Complete supply orders faxed, emailed, or delivered by courier for delivery to Austin clients.
    • Must develop knowledge of clients ordering patterns and adjust supply orders to meet client needs with minimal overages to control costs and prevent material expirations.
    • Have or develop area knowledge to deliver supplies to correct courier
  • Utilizes inventory counting and projected usage to order client supplies weekly.
    • Tracks supply usage and on hand inventory to develop and submit weekly supply orders to warehouse manager.
    • Receive and put away all supplies received in appropriate place.
    • Checks expiration dates on all incoming supplies. Rotates stock based on expiration date.
  • Maintain clean and safe work area.
    • Dispose of all debris and keep warehouse neat and orderly.
    • Dispose of all chemical and hazardous waste in compliance with regulatory guidelines and company policies.

Education:

Minimum – High School Diploma or GED

Preferred – Medical Assistant/Medical Terminology Training

Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 11am - 8:00pm

Experience: Data entry experience in a production environment, preferably in a laboratory/health care setting, but not required. Preferred:1 year experience in a warehouse, receiving, or material handling environment.

Skills: Minimum – Typing skill of a minimum of 60 wpm; proficiency with 10 key Good math skills and basic understanding of inventory counting principles. Basic knowledge and understanding of Wasp, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe preferred.

Physical Demands: Requires the ability to sit for extended period of times at a data entry station using keyboards, CRTs and other peripheral laboratory equipment. Requires the ability to shift points of vision and focus from documents to CRTs. Requires the ability to sit in and employ ergonomic positions and techniques to avoid repetitive motion or stress injuries. May require some pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching above shoulder height, grasping with both hands, pinching with thumb and forefinger, twisting with hand and wrist.

Requires standing bending and lifting for long periods. Must be able to lift 50 pounds repetitively to at least shoulder height. Be able to use dollies, carts and

pallet jacks as needed. Routinely requires pushing, pulling, and lifting of supplies.

Environmental Demands: Works in temperature controlled environment with constant exposure to biological and chemical hazards. May be required to operate fire and safety equipment or follow other safety procedures in an emergency situation. May be required to work with time constraints and crisis situations.
